Knowing when to ask for help and the lesson I have learnt.

Hello Hive

Been independent and self sufficient is good, the benefits is that you don't bother anyone and most times you are contented with whatever you have. Not everyone who has been charitable towards us do this out of pure Joy. People give, but some give grudgingly, some render helping hands and services to you but right within their hearts, they nurse hate feelings towards us.

IMG_20230522_104809_538.jpg

After my mums demise, i was expecting the uncles and aunties in the family to take up the responsibilities of raising us up but my hopes were dashed out.
It was a big challenge on my part.
My mum had us 7children in number and the youngest child was barely 3years, my two oldest sisters were already married with their kids and their own homes to manage.
I was left with 4younger siblings to cater for since dad was barely bringing a dime home.

This taught me a huge lesson on how to be sufficient and independent relying on no one for financial support or any kind of assistance.

IMG_20230522_105949_386.jpg

Since that time I have learnt to do things by myself, work for my own food and money, do all my house chores and repair work without asking for help. I got so used to this lifestyle that even when I meet those who want to assist me genuinely, I end up rejecting their offer of help, since I cannot read their minds and always feel indebted for every little assistance rendered.
I can continue thanking you days after you give me just an ordinary ride something that others will feel like its their entitlement from their friends, @jjmusa2004 can relate with this, you give me a ride and I can't stop saying thank you.
That is a act of gratitude because I have seen people who are in the capacity to help me but chose not to I deeply appreciate those who go all out for me.

IMG_20230522_105243_010.jpg

Living an extremely frugal life buying the basic needs, budgets upon budget and working hard to save every income.
I did most of my repair works myself, fixing things in the house and stuffs I could have paid for.
Machines get fixed, the boiling rings, bulbs and every other thing I could do.

My number one wish has always been I that could learn as many skills as possible so i could fix things myself and avoid spending too much.

Today I damaged my machine. 😟😟
It was a sad one but taught me a good lesson, I thought I could fix the discomfort it was giving me with sewing, the pedals were stiff and some other difficulties, taking out my tools, I loss every part, oiled it out and worked on it but it got bad instead.

img_1684751132647.jpg

I could no longer use it and had to call the services of an engineer.
He charged me more than necessary since the minor damage was worsened
$6 was what I cost me.

img_1684751150090.jpg

I have been so hard on myself
Will never call anyone for help
Things are much better than they were before yet I am so used to my shell and will never voice out for assistance.

The lessons I learnt is this;
We don't have to live this way
There are things we can never do on our own.
Seek for help but only from the right people.
And if you happen to find some good company of people, you can all form a circle where members can stand in the gap for each other...

Thank you for taking time to read through the lines I wish that I could shorten this as much as possible.

This is a beautiful design, especially the sleeve.

And as for the machine part, sorry about that, however, I'm glad you fix it and now I assure you that by God's grace, you will make more money with it than you've spent.

Ohh, wow you're a legend my sister, Thanks for talking about this @monica-ene .... We have been taught and brought up to be independent and self-sufficient individual, but the plain truth is that there are some point asking for help is important. For me I recognize and weigh problem, if I think I can contain it then I'm gonna try it out. As you've said the real deal is to know when to ask for help.

Thanks buddy.

I totally understand your position.

My father left when I was 5 and my mother worked to keep the my sister and I fed and housed. However, that means I was on my own a lot. It also meant that we were poor (my mom's wage was never enough).

As I was on my own from a young age I absolutely learned that I must be independent. I couldn't rely on anyone if I got into trouble and it was up to me to make sure I didn't get into trouble. I truly understand the need to be self sufficient!

However, I also know that if it was not for the help of others my life would have been much worse.

If not for Gary Dyck, I would have been homeless for a few months when I was in Grade 2.

If not for Mr. Wiens I never would have gone on a hunting trip and developed my love of nature.

If not for Mr. Hartley I never would have gone golfing of developed my love of books.

If not for the Williams Lake community I would never have gotten my first bike or the many toys I got (they were given by donation to needy children).

The list of times I've been helped by others is extensive. I also hate feeling endebted to others.

However, as a Christian there is another thing I've learned over time. As a Christian myself I've read many times that as a Christian and as the Church we are to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I am to do the work that I believe God would do himself. Feed those who are hungry. Help those who are sick. Visit those who are lonely. If I do not try to help others I'm neglecting my duties to God. If I reject the help of others I'm rejecting the help of God. That does humble me.

Of course choosing friends and help wisely is also important. Some people have motives when helping others and should be totally avoided!

Final note. If you receive any Hive or HBD from me please NEVER feel any obligation to me. I work strictly on a never pay me back ideology. I work on a Pay It Forward philosophy. If I help you then you can help others. That's also why the community I started is not just "Be Frugal". Being frugal means its all about you. "Be Frugal not Stingy" to me means save where you can to live a lifestyle you can afford AND help others around you by being generous.

Thanks again for posting. Always enjoy reading your posts.

Thank you for that gentle reminder.
I will always put it to heart to help others.
It has always been my vision to own an orphanage in the future, to love and raise the homeless and all of that.
This is just a secret, please pretend you didn't hear it just yet.

My secret is that I want to start a soup kitchen / feed the poor site in the Philippines (preferably in conjunction with a local church). That's why I'm trying to find how to get the most nutrition for the least money so hare. but....

This is just a secret, please pretend you didn't hear it just yet.

That's brilliant, our secret is hidden in the heart of God. It shall be established and the vision is indeed for an appointed time.

Hmm, deep, I understand what you have to go through, even most people these days can't render assistance without receiving something in return.

Sorry about your sewing machine too, I'm glad you could get it fixed and your top looks perfect, you are really doing well.

Hello Monica. It is true that sometimes asking for help is necessary, even though we are very independent, there will always be something that requires external help and that does not make us less useful. I'm still glad that you are so self-sufficient and have helped your brothers so much, that speaks of the good person you are.

Your sewing work looks good and those sleeves are one of a kind. They were very cute.

Greetings and happy Monday to you ❤️.
