Consequences of the rain breaks and drought during the peak of farming, better plans to navigate harsh weather conditions for crops.

A warm welcome to a new week to each and every one of us. I hope that we were able to have as much rest as possible during the short weekend. Sundays are the only days we get to rest as farmers in this season and I am already up trying to prepare for the days work.

Looking back at our bambaranuts, all road is clear and set for them to start producing flowers at this time but I think that the rain is now becoming a burden and a major factor for these delay. The bamabaranut at slightly above a month old is meant to have start producing flowers. They grow in a similar fashion just like groundnuts, producing flower at the first month of growth and maybe a second flowering when their fruits begin to mature underneath.

This rains break and dryness has become a consistent yearly experience and I have been thinking that maybe there are things we may need to do now to avoid the consistent losses we often experience with farming. There is a proper timing for growing every crops which has been a very strict rule we follow yearly.

I believe that since the season for planting is often dictated by the weather we can try to plant the crops that gets affected the most using another timing. I don't want to believe that the planting seasons for crops should remain strict anymore. For instance these bambaranuts that is planted in the months of July can be moved to probably the month of Mayz such that by June down to july they may have start producing their foods before the rain breaks.

I don't know if that will help. Irrigation farming to keep this alive before the rains resume is not a feasible of options as the water pumping machine and diesels can be really expensive and besides there are no rivers close to our farmlands.

Rather than endure some labour and wasted efforts yearly we may have to seek for other planting methods that will favour our crops and so that we can always grow whatever we want without the interuption of rainfalls.
