Behold, this is what it looks like for the lettuce at two weeks old. It was really late when we left the farm yesterday and the pictures aren't doing justice to the growth progress of these lettuce. Remember I have said that these lettuce are meant to be ready in about 6weeks, Now here is how they look like for being just 2weeks old.

Right after planting these, a first set of weeding exercise have carried out on the farm here, we didn't want the growth of the lettuce to be interfered by anything. Being a fragile vegetable you cannot use herbicides on lettuce, hence a manual weeding was important. It is often very difficult to weedout grasses from crops when those grasses have grown really tall and stubborn hence some weeding exercise for planted crops are done early enough.

Here is what they looked like about a week earlier when we were there for the weeding.

And here is the current growth phase, there has been a significant growth with no challenge

Mind you, the ground here is very fertile and we have no need for fertilizer in order to grow these. Fertilizers makes the lettuces grow very speedily with more wider and soft leaves. The difference between veggies grown with fertilizers and those grown without it I often very much evident but it good that people understand which more is more healthier and better in taste.

Yesterday we were in the farm for the planting of Cassava. A farmer friend who needs cassava stems to plant came around of which I did show him the two varieties of cassava stems beside the farm and which is better for cultivation.

These Cassava Stems can be harvested and planted in other fields without interrupting the growth of the tubers below.

There is a way we go about these. Whenever cassava stems grow this much tall and they are of very high quality, they can be harvested and taken to other fields where they can be propagated. More farmers are now interested in this particular cassava stems for planting in their own farms

It's another day if farm work and the plans for today is to work out how we can get started with groundnut farming for the year.
