Happy new day to us all, it's a blessing to see the light of a other day and waking up hale and hearty. I just got up too and like a routine I made due my morning blogs, prepare the ground and then find my way to the farm.

We would be continuing with the planting of our rice this morning. And just like the way we have started the exercise last week, it has started yielding results.

These rice grains were planted exactly a week ago have now germinated.

It's beautiful to see that all the grains germinated pretty well with no challenge, this is due to the fact that one has to adopt some prodecures and cautions that will cause the rice to germinate well.

First of all herbicides were added to control weeds in the farm and then when the grasses have all withered off the grains were then planted directly in the ground.

The withered grasses often serve as a little protective shield for the grains so that they don't get picked up by birds and when th rain falls on them repeatedly they also get rotten and don't bother the crops

The earlier processes we often use to to plant the rice grains before now doesn't always go well.
Back in the days when there were no herbicides, we use hoes to weed off the grasses before planting our grains but the challenge with this method is that after planting the grains grasses often grow up at the early stage to catch up with the plants. And when grains are also planted in open fields they get picked up by birds.

This method is now one of the bests we have learnt from experience about how to plant these grains. Just a week of planting them and all the grains have germinated.

Another process that will follow up with these after the planting is the thinning phase. It is often difficult to count the number of grains we plant per hole hence an approximate number is grains is often planted. But after this has grown for a while then noe we engage in the thinning to reduce the seedling and subsequent overcrowding so that the crops can grow and produce well.
