Sewing children outfits has really giving me a tough time in the past and since I decided to never give up I keep making the children outfits regardless of the mistakes involved, I know that some day soon I will become perfect as my skills get better and better everyday.
Everyday I learn something new about making children outfits and today I will like to share some of those secrets with you.

First for beginners you can learn with paper and draw out a kids pattern like I just did.
From 0-3years of age.

  • A shoulder measurements of 7-10" is perfect but for a thick child you may want to consider using 11-12".

  • An arm hold depth of 4" will not be neither big nor small but If you are in doubt you can use 3.5 and increase it later.

  • Next is the neckline, I often used 2.5" width by 2-3" depth depending on the weight of a child and age category.

  • The half-length where the waist is measured should remain at 7-8" maximum and their full length can very from height to height of each child .
But once the above key measurements are gotten right you are on your way to make a perfect child's outfits.
So here is my measurements with all the criteria I mentioned.

For the sweetheart neck you can measure any debt you want while I have used the mild armhole for the ending of the dart.

.

After cutting this out both front and back block with a straight yoke for the back and sweetheart yoke for the front .

Next I added paper stay to give it some firmness and proceeded to sew the dress

To see in the fragile net yoke I was having some different as it is weak and can easily get torn then in remembered a trick from fashion school and applied it here. .

Placing a paper under the net gives it some firmness so that I can sow easily.

See how neat the stitches on the net looks like. This could have been pulled or punctured by the sewing needle but the paper really helped out.

Next I turned in the yoke to the dress with lining and joined it with the lower bodice.

Did thesame for the back bodice before proceeding to pull a gathers of the lower part of the dress....

After joining the front and back bodice I am lost with what idea of embroidery decorations to use or what color of accessories will go on milk white but definitely I know that I will come up with something nice, regardless a beautiful sweetheart neck dress is ready for my niece as her Christmas dress.
