You can judge the true character of a man by the way he treats his animal companions (Paul McCartney)

Hello everyone and this beautiful community of #cervantes this is my first post and I want to share my point of view about animals in zoos.

For reflection

during a walk that I made this Sunday July 31 to a zoo that is very close to my house, taking advantage of the moment since my nephews of 6 and 4 years are visiting, we decided to go for a walk and is that the natural environment of the park is very nice has a lot of flora with large trees and waterfalls, its landscapes are to admire, all super well, but....

How difficult it was for me to see all those animals that belong to a wild habitat, enclosed in cages of little more than 4 mtr2. For some time I have been asking myself why these animals should be locked up, exhibited as living trophies of us humans, as one more banality of simple entertainment or to satisfy human selfishness, most of these animals are born and die in captivity, and who are we to inhibit these species to perform most of the behaviors that for them are innate and vital such as running, flying, climbing or accompanying other companions of the species.

In 2013 I made a vacation trip to the state of Falcon Vzla. there I visited a zoo, my heart broke in 2 when I saw a spectacled bear in a tiny cage! That bear lives along the Andean mountain range in the rainforests and paramos, and was locked in a place of desert climate and in very bad conditions, his image in that cage has not been erased from my mind that sadness that reflected can not be expressed in words.

At that moment I thought "wow I am contributing by visiting this place to that bear and many other animals remain in captivity, they have the right to be born, live and die in freedom" from that moment changed my perception of seeing the zoo as a recreation center, what for us is one more day of entertainment for those animals is one more day of torture.

The other side

There are zoos that are dedicated to taking care of animals that cannot return to their wild life or that have been rescued from situations where they were in danger, I respect and admire this type of work, as well as the work that is done to preserve an endangered species, not everything in the zoo world is bad.

What is wrong is to have an animal locked up only for the delight of the human eye for simple recreation, in my opinion it is something that we must change and become aware of.

Let's remember 2020 when we could not even go out in front of our houses because of the quarantine that was lived in almost all over the world, it was a torture for us, the same happens in zoos with animals, since 2013 I did not visit a zoo today I am more convinced that the animals that are in them should live in their natural habitat.
