I'm germinating seeds indoors.

You know I am always trying to improve my technique, improve my substrate, light conditions and everything that has to do with the garden, in this case due to the ambient temperature I am germinating cactus seeds indoors.

But first I want to tell you about something I did, the other day I rooted more than 30 of these opuntias, which I took to the nursery with my friend and with whom I made a deal that I will show you below, yes, all that root is new, it is easy to make them root.

I told him that I didn't want money because I saw some cactus that I liked and we made an exchange, he was happy and so was I, here you can see the 4 new cactus in my collection.

I already have a good sized astrophytum ornatum but wanted a new one so that at some point they will be a pair and get seeds, maybe 4 years from now.

IMG_20221208_134038.jpg

Look at this pair of beauties, astrophytum Capricorne, I bought two for the same reason, in a couple of years they will give me seeds, although it is likely that the grafts I am about to make from the seedlings I have at the moment, are very likely to give flower before this pair, but for my private collection I really like them in their roots.

I love those beautiful thorns!

IMG_20221208_134122.jpg

Look at this beautiful specimen of Astrophytum Myriostigma, in fact I have two that have already given me flowers although I think I never showed them, I couldn't pollinate them because they were not synchronized, now with a third specimen it will be easier (I hope), besides I will be more careful because the first two I had I left them outside during the rainy season, and as you can imagine they suffered some damage especially in the aesthetics, soon I will make a greenhouse type structure where they will not get wet with the rain and I will control the water better.

In fact I think it is of the columnar type, let's see what happens with time. In the next few days I will change pots, especially to check the roots and if necessary do a root trimming, besides putting them in my substrate which is the one I trust for the moment.

As the weather is changing and is not constant, sometimes it is cold then hot again, I decided it was time to germinate seeds indoors, I found a place in the house that is dark but keeps the temperature, the darkness does not matter to me because I will use artificial light, so let's see this.

IMG_20221208_134500.jpg

It is a simple cardboard box, I don't even cover it with aluminum foil, I just put the seedbed inside and cover it with a piece of cloth to help even more with heat preservation.

IMG_20221208_134508.jpg

In some seedbeds the germination ratio is already 100%, some are at 85% but four days ago I made the seedbeds, so we are on the right track, I will show you some of the seedbeds although I will not tell you the type of cactus they are, that will be a surprise for when they grow.

A few months ago when I was still learning a lot of what I already know, I sowed seeds of Turbinicarpus Lophophoroides and to my surprise and yours, not a single seed was born, this time I ordered again with the same supplier but this time they are born, although my process was different now and I scarified the seed, I guess that had a lot to do with it.

In case you are wondering the led lamp I am using has a size of 60 cm.

IMG_20221208_144748.jpg

The color temperature is 6500k, which from what I see the new plants are liking, that would be all for today, see you soon.

They look great! I sowed some lithops and frithia seeds so I'm eagerly waiting for them. I'll sow dioscorea seeds this weekend too

I would definitely love to see the germination of your seeds, I have only sown lithops once and I am not satisfied with the result, maybe next year I will do better but it would be nice to learn from you, good luck.
