New cacti, dead cacti and garden news.

Damn it! Sometimes I really hate my luck, a little over a month ago I bought a cactus like this one, but unfortunately it died, I think some fungus got into it because it really stunk horrible, and since I really liked the cactus today I had to buy one at half price, the nursery I have been going to moved three blocks from my house, now I can walk there and more than ever I feel I need to stop myself before I end up buying the whole nursery.

According to me it is the mammillaria geminispina, and although it has some differences in the color of the spines, the truth is that it is very similar to the dead cactus, although being honest this one looks more beautiful and it will live for sure, next I will explain why I think so.

This is the dead cactus, and although I am against buying cacti with this substrate, I couldn't avoid buying this cactus, I think when I buy cacti in this substrate I have always had some problems with the health of the cactus after transplanting.

muerto-2.jpg

The roots end up too tangled in the substrate and it can be difficult to free them, damn obsession to eliminate everything that can harm the cactus as too much organic stuff, ends up playing against me and I end up hurting the roots, well that's what I guess, although as I say it may have been more the fault of a fungus.

I had decorated it very nice and had high hopes, I was young and naive, sadly it died and I didn't feel like taking pictures of it in its condition, now next I show you one of the many plants I bought this month haha, and according to me I wasn't going to buy anymore but they put them at half price and make me buy! Well the next plant is the haworthia coarctata, although it could also be a haworthia reinwardtii, I'm really not sure of its ID, hopefully you can give me your opinion.

The following pictures are of different plants in the garden, I just want to keep you updated, there are many things I haven't talked about over the last few days, but first let's look at the pictures.

muerto-8.jpg

My echeveria shaviana grew too much, so I had to buy this pot, it took a lot of mix but it is worth it, by the way I have not given myself time to investigate if the plant will die after giving its flower, but that is something I will find out in time.

muerto-9.jpg

I am very proud of my haworthia attenuata, at first she was rejecting the place with more sun I put it, there was a time when I thought she might die but I kept going, her leaves got very dark but once she got used to it her color is getting back to normal, she has given offspring before but she is filling up with more offspring, plus the flowering rod looks like she will give some kind of offspring on it, crazy isn't it?

muerto-10.jpg

I hope you remember this little guy, in a couple of days he will open his first flower and we will know for sure to which species he belongs.

muerto-11.jpg

Also lately I have started to like astrophytum more than ever, my collection of them is only 3 but hopefully it will grow as soon as I order seeds to germinate, and speaking of seeds on Tuesday I will receive the seeds I told you I ordered, so I need to make some changes in my garden to be able to sow all the seeds, they are almost 500 and will take up quite a lot of space as they are of different species.

And about this astrophytum don't be scared, actually it was given to me at the nursery when I saw that it was quite damaged, as I mentioned they moved the nursery near to my house, so some plants were damaged in the process, due to lack of water or too much sun, anyway, I took the challenge to see if I can revive this cactus, it is a personal challenge, if it ends up dying is the fading that already had the cactus, if it survives it will have a bad aspect but it will serve me for photographs, you know, sometimes I like that things are not perfect, the advantage is that as I said it was a gift and the only thing that I will invest will be time.

I am impressed with the quality images from those cacti. Have you ever thought about putting them on adobe stock? with that quality,it would sell over there 😄

Hi thank you very much, stock photography is quite competitive but we always have to try.

It's quite competitive but it won't hurt trying!

I took a couple of photos today that might interest you, I'm still working on them, but I took them with stock photography in mind.

When I get cacti in those organic substrates, I don't untangle the roots, just put everything into well-draining mineral soil.
Reinwardtii and coarctata are mostly synonymous.
Your echeverias will not die after flowering.
Haworthia flower stalks do sometimes make little offsets the way orchids do.
That Astro: Oof! Keep it out of the sun and treat it gently, sometimes they make it
