New cacti, once again I had to buy.

First of all let's talk about this little one that I don't know its ID, it seems to me some kind of Echinopsis oxigona but I'm not sure, the truth is that it was a gift I received yesterday.

And well, saying that it is a little one is only a saying, the truth is that it is much bigger than the purchases I made yesterday, we can see the difference in size in the pictures.

I am really falling in love with gymnocalycium, their shape pleases me, their size and colors are spectacular, plus the flowers they produce are very beautiful, so how could I avoid falling in love with them.

The app tells me that this is a ferocactus hamatacanthus, I still need to investigate more about it, but its flowers are really beautiful, this cactus and the gymno were an offer with 50% discount, so I could not avoid buying them, the investment was only 10 dollars, and that counting the gas for the trip.

After letting the sun warm up the environment, the flower finished opening to let me see those beautiful colors, in the next few days I will take macro photographs that I will show you in a post.

Now let's talk about this cactus, I don't know the history, I don't know why it grew that way or why it was etiolated, the truth is that it was given to a person and she gave it to me, everyone knows that I like cacti and she likes succulents, anyway, I decided to try to rescue it.

IMG_20220517_095936.jpg

I'm thinking of cutting the lower part where the roots are, my idea is to cut where we see the red line to see if I can stimulate it to give new shoots, it would look great with a bunch of babies.

IMG_20220517_101608.jpg

Now the upper part, as I don't know the ID, I don't know if I am really facing a columnar cactus or one that should have a barrel or biznaga shape, I don't know if I should plant it as it is although I would have to plant it deep to keep it from falling, I would probably cut on the red line so that the new roots start to grow from there, the other option is to cut on the yellow line to eliminate the excess and make it look more esthetic, and finally the last option is to cut on the blue line, but that would be if I discover that I am really facing an Echinopsis oxigona, the cut on that line would make it have a closer shape to the one it should have, but first I need to know its ID, besides your opinion is important, what should I do? What do you recommend?

To end the post, I was invited to see the pitahaya flowers, unfortunately I arrived at a bad time and although I was for a few minutes waiting for the flowers to open, I couldn't take better pictures because I had to go out to make some work, hopefully tomorrow I can see the flowers fully open, what surprised me was to see their size and color, but especially the size, they are simply huge.

I think that is a columnar cactus, not an oxygona, maybe one of the cereus family
and it isn't that etiolated. Maybe cut at the red line only

Working on it, in a few months we will know what kind of cactus it is.

I think its very old and very neglected Echinopsis (google up echinopsis multiplex or echinopsis werdermannii).
I would leave the bottom part with roots, maybe cut off a bit more of that long, ugly neck. The top is already cut, so it will not grow up. It will have to produce babies. And at least it will have roots to get some water.
The top part I'd cut on red (more likely) or yellow line. Blue is wayyyy to high. It is a nice old plant.

I decided to make the cut on the red line, I hope that in a few months when it recovers and gives babies or flowers, we will know for sure which cactus it is.

Good choice :)
I am sure it will be fine and look a lot better.
