DIY process on how to cut and sew a senator

#virtual greetings to everyone, @hivediy

I am so excited to share a post here in this community, but before I proceed, i will love to know how you all are doing. I hope you all are doing pretty well. I welcome you all to 2024.

I am here to share with you guys the simple steps to cut and sew a senator top. I hope this will be very helpful. I will try my best to describe each step in detail with pictures for simple understanding.

The sewing of Senator Top is the simplest thing that someone can just look at and understand on their first day of training, and I promise that after going through this very post, you will understand some of the secret behind it.

Here is the one I make for myself.

I hope this looks beautiful when I wear it. I will be using this very dress I made for myself to explain my process.

Let's get started.

Material needed

  • Ankara fabric
  • thread
  • sewing tape
  • sewing machine
  • chalk
  • ruler
  • scissors.

The material was given to me at night, so I have to do the sewing over night since I am using it today, Wednesday, for a traditional marriage.

To begin, I first took my measurements.

Shoulder 17
Chase 39
Full length: 29
Round neck: 16
Hand length: 10
Round hand 12

Those are the measurements I work with.

Front

To cut the front, I divided the Chase measurements by 2 and then added 2 inches for sewing allowance, getting a total of 10.5 inches. I then fold the material into two, marking out the width at 10.5 and then the length at 29. Plus the bending of 2 inches, which makes it 31 inches.

Back
I used the same measurement for the back, but I added 4 inches to the total length, which will now be 35 inches long.

That means that the back is longer than the front by 4 inches.

After cutting, I then place the front on top of the front, and I then slant the shoulder from the bending edge to where it is not being bent. from the neck to the arm by 2 inches.

I then cut it out.

After cutting it out, I then pull back the front to move the same with the back at the bottom, and then I bend the back to overlap with the front at 0.5 inches.

I then measure out the shoulder from the neck, and then I use the shoulder measurement for the armhole depth and the curve out of the armhole.

I then cut it out.

I then round out the neck, and here are the back and front views.

I then open the center front of the dress by 6 inches so that it can be worn easily, and then sew a cape to cover the opening.

After that, I then join the shoulder together with the help of a sewing machine.

Cutting the hand.

I folded the material into two and then doubled it to be four folds, i.e., for the two hands. I then mark out the length and the round arm with folding allowers, and I also round the armhole to bring out the curve I need.

After that, I then sew everything, and here is the outcome of it.

I then piped the neck

I am done. This is my first time sewing a senator dress. I hope the outcome looks pretty good. Thanks to everyone for going through.
