Weekend Babysitting

I’m not yet a father. I’ve been in a relationship with my wife for almost 13 years already. Sadly, we didn’t have a child for such a long time already. At first, it was okay and I thought it would be alright. However, when time flies by with just the two of us. It feels incomplete, it’s like we are not yet a family. I understood that not all people are blessed with children. It’s just that these days, I even kind of want to have one.

The younger brother of my wife had their child just a year ago. The empty house of ours became livelier because of their child. Her name is Kiana, she’s a woman but she’s goofy sometimes. I thought I wouldn’t treat her special because she’s not our own. With the continuous influence of my wife bringing the child to me. I began to love her but not to the point as is my own. I’m an open-minded person, so I’m still aware of the truth that this child will never be ours.

Once in a while we brought this child into our house and sometimes we brought her when we went to the sea. Just like today, earlier ago when we decided to close the store for a short time to have a rest somewhere quiet. Our best option was to be in the mountains or in the hills. Unfortunately, there is no place like that in this town. I heard there were before but after the devastating typhoon 3 years ago. Those places became abandoned and left unattended. There were some that the municipality has plans but no sign of actions.

We had no choice but to go along the shore. We were planning to rest but not to swim. We went to a nearer shore with not much preparation because it was just a sudden decision to take a break. Together with this child instead of resting, we didn’t have the time to do so. We were busy watching the child walking and going everywhere. The wind from the sea was very relaxing but we didn’t think of napping. We had a child who was wide awake enjoying the beautiful sea.

Physically we didn’t relax ourselves but mentally, we did. The fun that the child gave us healed the stress in our minds. Also, when you're happy, the exhaustion of your body will soon fade. Of course, we were happy there because of that child.

It’s a simple way of relaxation but it’s effective. Well, the child is one of the reasons behind I guess.
