SketchTravel – Another sketch in the old town of Arcos, Spain
(Edited)
The narrow, twisting cobblestone streets
Sketching for a rugged look
Spain boasts of having these old hilltop "white towns" where you can see them from quite a distance due to their whitewashed brilliance in the sun. It is true, we saw a number of them as we made our way south from Salamanca to the Mediterranean and back up to Arcos, Sevilla, Granada, Toledo and Madrid.
This sketch was done using a quill pen with permanent black ink on regular sketchbook paper. The pen nib is sharp, resulting in it tearing the paper a bit as you add more pressure to your strokes. So it is always an experiment. I added the watercolor washes later.
