Brilliant colora and classic architecture

An inviting gate

We stopped to explore this area on foot. The gateway next to the remnant of the old city wall held our interest, and I decided to do a sketch of it. These solidly built places have certainly weathered the test of time. Cracked mortar, peeling paint and chipped walls, fading colors and staining from the elements all add to the feeling.

This was first drawn in brown permanent ink, with the watercolor washes added later.
