Stunning architecture
A small and accessible village
From Kyoto we took a day trip to see the traditional gassho-zukuri thatched roof dwellings in the village of Kayabuki No Sato, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We walked the streets of this small village. It was not very crowded on this day and we were able to visit a museum inside one house, and climb the streets to the uppermost dwellings, taking an overgrown narrow path that lead us to a cemetery.
I’ve done several sketches here. This one was done using pen and ink and then adding the color washes later.
