Walking the narrow streets in Portugal

Like moving back into history

There is no better activity than wandering somewhat aimlessly through foreign places. And if that place happens to be Portugal, so much the better. We typically have a couple things on our list to see, but often take the long way reaching them, all the back roads and alleyways that look alluring. This is where we find the tiny cafes grilling fish or tucked away coffee houses/book stores. If I find a neighborhood I particularly like, I try to return later in the day when the sun and shadows present things differently. This particular view shows remnants of the old walled city, as it built out into a larger urban environment over time. I love the mix of whitewashed walls, terracotta roofs, cobblestone streets, faded green streetlights and the distinctive orange trim.
