Chronicles Between the Countryside and the City. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

If there’s one thing I love about my city, it’s the tranquility of the mornings. Perhaps because I live in a small town in the countryside, I’ve grown accustomed to certain routines that bind me emotionally to it.

Si hay algo que me gusta de mi ciudad es la tranquilidad de las mañanas. Quizás porque vivo en un pueblo de campo, me acostumbré a ciertas rutinas que me unen sentimentalmente a él.

At 7:00 in the morning, you hardly see anyone on the street; there’s no noise, and the atmosphere is one of pure tranquility. That’s what I experience every time I leave Bauta (where I live) for Havana.

A las 7:00 de la mañana apenas te encuentras a nadie en la calle, no hay ruido y el ambiente es de pura tranquilidad. Eso es lo que experimento cada vez que salgo de Bauta (donde vivo) hacia La Habana.

On my way to the stop where I’m supposed to catch a taxi, I say hello to friends and grab a coffee at a street stall. Boy, do I enjoy those little moments!

De camino a la parada donde debo coger un taxi, voy saludando a los amigos y tomo café en algún puesto de la calle. ¡Vaya si se disfrutan esos momenticos!

Until you get to Havana and everything changes—it’s completely different, from the architecture to the comings and goings of people.

Hasta que llegas a La Habana y todo cambia, es completamente diferente, desde la arquitectura hasta el ir y venir de la gente.

Everything is denser, more complex—sometimes hard to describe.

Todo es más denso, más complejo, a veces difícil de describir.

In fact, when I arrived at my sister’s house, I saw a fire nearby, surrounded by people and onlookers—something typical of the city. Of course, for a street photographer like me, it’s material to work with.

De hecho, al llegar a casa de mi hermana, vi un incendio cerca, lleno de personas y curiosos, algo típico de la ciudad. Claro, para un fotógrafo callejero como yo, es material para trabajar.

And that’s my routine: I travel from the countryside to the city, and when I’ve been away for many days, I can’t wait to get back to the countryside.

Y así es mi rutina: viajo del campo a la ciudad y, cuando llevo muchos días fuera, me muero de ganas por regresar al campo.
