Chronicles of a Street Photographer. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Do you ever find yourself wanting to do so many things in such a short amount of time that you end up not knowing where to begin? That's exactly what happened to me this weekend during my usual trip to Havana.

¿No les pasa que quieren hacer demasiadas cosas en muy poco tiempo y terminan sin saber por dónde empezar? Algo así me ocurrió este fin de semana durante mi habitual visita a La Habana.

I can no longer visit as often as I used to because of transportation difficulties, so whenever I finally have the chance to be there, I try to fit everything I want to do into a single day. And that's precisely when the problem begins: there are so many ideas, so many places I want to explore, and so many photographs I imagine taking that, at times, I find myself standing still, unable to decide which direction to walk or which neighborhood to visit first.

Ya no puedo ir con la frecuencia de antes debido a las dificultades del transporte, así que cuando finalmente tengo la oportunidad de estar allí intento concentrar en un solo día todo lo que quisiera hacer. Y es precisamente entonces cuando surge el problema: son tantas las ideas, tantos los lugares que quiero recorrer y tantas las fotografías que imagino, que por momentos me quedo paralizado, sin decidir hacia qué dirección caminar o qué barrio explorar primero.

Time is always working against me. I know the hours pass quickly, and I don't want to miss a single opportunity to capture a good image. So I end up doing what I know best: walking.

El tiempo siempre juega en contra. Sé que las horas pasan rápido y no quiero desperdiciar ninguna oportunidad de encontrar una buena imagen. Así que termino haciendo lo que mejor sé hacer: caminar.

As I move through the city, I adjust the camera settings on the go, blend into the crowd, and observe faces, streets, and those small details that only reveal themselves when you pay attention. Sometimes I'm not looking for anything specific; I simply allow myself to be surprised.

Voy ajustando los parámetros de la cámara sobre la marcha, mezclándome entre la multitud, observando los rostros, las calles y los pequeños detalles que aparecen cuando uno presta atención. A veces no busco nada en particular; simplemente me dejo sorprender.

Of course, no outing would be complete without the customary cup of coffee. More than a habit, it has become part of the ritual. I like to think that this small pause also fuels my creativity and helps me see things from a different perspective.

En medio del recorrido nunca falta el café de rigor. Más que una costumbre, ya forma parte del ritual. Me gusta pensar que ese pequeño descanso también alimenta la creatividad y me ayuda a mirar las cosas desde otra perspectiva.

And so, between long walks, photographs, and the occasional cup of coffee, the day gradually came to an end. In the end, I managed to capture the images I had in mind, along with a few I wasn't expecting to find. I returned home tired, but with that satisfying feeling that comes from a day well spent.

Y así, entre caminatas, fotografías y alguna que otra taza de café, la jornada fue llegando a su fin. Al final conseguí las imágenes que tenía en mente, e incluso algunas que no esperaba encontrar. Regresé cansado, pero con esa satisfacción que deja un día bien aprovechado.
