Lately a relation of mine kept complaining of always feeling hot. At first we all felt maybe she had a fever, how about some analgesics we said, and you will be fine.

Day after day the complaint of always feeling hot kept coming and i knew it was beyond having a mild fever.
I am a medic and from the conversation, i knew it was hot flushes.

What does it mean?
I'll keep it simple, it refers to a symptom amongst the menopausal syndrome where women of middle age experience recurrent flashes of increased temperature.

Should one be worried
No it's normal and every woman would experience it. It just indicates that the hormones like estrogen and progresterone are reduced.

What can be done
Well it can't be cured but it lasts for just a while.
Somethings can be done to ease the severity as mentioned below.

  • Try to cool your surrounding as much as possible. You can use fans, air conditioners as this would help to reduce the effect.
  • Take a lot of water at least 3L a day.
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and less of alcohol or other non healthy foods.
  • Engage in mild excercises like brisk walking and jogging.
  • Go for regular medical check up.
  • Some advocate use of hormonal replacement therapy but it has it's side effects.
  • Get adequate rests at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep.
  • Get engaged in activities you love to do that will take your mind away from it.
  • Lastly be at peace knowing it'sa normal phase in a woman's life that will pass.

Thanks for reading in other to prevent my write being excessively long i gave an abridged and simple version.
Please feel free to ask questions here and I'll answer
Thanks from # The young Medic.

They are a pain for sure! I've been told by some ladies into their upper 70's, that they still have them. I guess time will tell!

Thanks for sharing and have a good one!
