Today I am very excited presenting this project of a 35x35cms cushion applying the patchwork technique the art of sewing multiple scraps of fabric forming a tapestry, it is very interesting and entertaining this activity, it is the first time I apply this technique. I remember that my paternal grandmother did practice this method of joining different pieces of fabric and formed bedspreads and quilts.At the moment of sewing these patchwork pieces to my mind came multiple memories and longings of my dear grandmother Rosaura, she loved to make tapestries of fabric scraps, she made one only of circles seemed very difficult to me, I will try to make one at any moment.

Hoy estoy muy emocionada presentando este proyecto de un cojín de 35x35cms aplicando la técnica patchwork el arte de coser múltiples retazos de tela formando un tapiz, es muy interesante y entretenida esta actividad, es la primera vez que aplico esta técnica. Recuerdo que mi abuela paterna si practicaba este método de unir diferentes retazos de tela y formaba cubrecamas y colchas. Al momento de coser estos retazos a mi mente llegaron múltiples recuerdos y añoranzas de mi querida abuela Rosaura, a ella le encantaba hacer tapices de retazos de tela, hizo uno solamente de círculos me parecía muy difícil, trataré de hacer uno en cualquier momento.

Step by step//Paso a paso

Materials//Materiales

• Fabric scraps (01) of 15x15cms (40) squares 6x6cms, a square of 35x35cms
• Scissors.
• Pins.
• Measuring tape.
• Sewing needle.
• Sewing thread.
• Hypoallergenic cotton stuffing.
• Ruler and pencil.

• Retazos de tela (01) de 15x15cms (40)cuadritos 6x6cms,un cuadrado de 35x35cms.
• Tijera.
• Alfileres.
• Cinta métrica.
• Aguja de coser.
• Hilo de coser
• Relleno de algodón hipoalergénico.
• Regla y lápiz.

Process//Proceso

• From an unused flannel I cut 15x15cms out this flower in the shape of a square, it will be the center of the composition, around it will be sewn fabric cuttings of 6x6cms of various colors in combination.

• De una franela sin uso recorté 15x15cms en forma de cuadrado esta flor, será el centro de la composición, alrededor se coserán recortes de tela de 6x6cms de varios colores en combinación.

• It had several fabric cutouts in shades of pink, white and orange of 6x6cms.

• Tenía varios recortes de tela en tonos rosado, blanco y naranja de 6x6cms.

• Aquí se observa una parte de como quedará.

• Using the sewing machine, I sewed each (2) square, forming vertical or horizontal columns.

• Utilizando la máquina de coser fui cosiendo cada (2) cuadrado, formando columnas verticales u horizontales.

• Then I sewed another column with another group of squares of different colors and textures.

• Después cosí otra columna con costura otro grupo de cuadrados de diferentes colores y texturas.

• I then sewed the vertical or horizontal columns to the center square.

• Luego cosí las columnas verticales u horizontales al cuadrado del centro.

• The fabric is sewn on the back of the cushion, the reverse side of both covers.
• Sew three sides by machine and 2/3 of the other side, leaving a small opening where it will be stuffed.

• Se procede a coser la tela de la parte posterior del cojín, el revés de ambas tapas.
• Se cose tres lados a máquina y 2/3 del otro lado, quedando una pequeña abertura por donde se rellenará.

Assembly//Ensamblado

• After stitching, it is turned to the right side.
• The cushion is stuffed with cotton material.
• The 1/3 side is sewn by hand.

• Después de cosido, se voltea para al lado derecho.
• Se rellena con material de algodón el cojín.
• Se cose a mano el 1/3 lateral.

...And my cushion is ready. I am very happy😁 I was very satisfied with the result 😍.

...Y listo mi cojín. Estoy muy feliz😁 quedé muy satisfecha por el resultado 😍.

Patchwork is the technique of joining a group of fabric scraps of different colors and textures giving shapes of circles, squares, hexagons, rectangles or other figures, but always applying a theme or structure forming a tapestry. The scraps come to life, they are given a second chance with the sense of making the most of the fabrics, even if they are tiny, they will always be useful, with this we are contributing to the reduction of waste and greater use of the materials we use in our clothing, benefiting the environment and therefore our planet will look more humane and less climate imbalance, this is my little grain of sand.

Patchwork es la técnica de unir un grupo de retazos de telas de diferentes colores y texturas dando formas de círculos, cuadrados, hexágonos, rectángulos u otras figuras, pero siempre aplicando una temática o estructura formando un tapiz. Los retazos cobran vida, se les da una segunda oportunidad con el sentido de aprovechar al máximo las telas así sean diminutas siempre van a tener utilidad con esto estamos contribuyendo con la disminución de basura y mayor provecho de los materiales que usamos en nuestras confecciones beneficiándose el ambiente y por ende nuestro planeta tendrá un aspecto mas humano y menos desequilibrio climático, este es mi granito de arena.
