90s Soul

Hello Hive Music Gang!

Welcome to another #threetunetuesday created originally by @ablaze.

It's Tuesday and that can mean only one thing, #threetunetuesday! It is one of my favorite days of the week because we get to share 3 tunes with the community and have some fun.

This week, I am listening to some 90s tunes which I remember from back then from 3 different artists. Maybe you know them?

The first tune is by quite an iconic singer from the period Lauryn Hill. This is a great relaxing soul number which I really like. It is track 13 on her solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Lauryn is more known for her rapping as part of The Fugees where she enjoyed some success. I remember those tunes quite well from the time, but they aren't songs that have stood the test of time and are more successful for their clever use of a background melody.

Lauryn Hill - Everything Is Everything

The next tune is a cover song that I remember from the 90s by Shola Ama that has a nice soul flavor to it. It was not so well known outside of a couple of countries and did'nt enjoy much chart success outside the UK.

One thing I really don't like when watching live performances is when the performer tries to get the crowd to sing along with them. It is one of my pet peeves and you can see it in this performance. How do you feel about this?

If I wanted to listen to myself sing, I would do it in the shower. Otherwise, it is a great tune to listen to and chillout.

Shola Ama - You Might Need Somebody

The final tune is a from Toni Braxton who was ahead of the game in this genre with some pretty soulful tunes without all the pop-ness that was to follow with the likes of Beyonce. This is one of my favorite tunes by Toni, which you can still listen to now.

There was lots going on in the 90s and the lead up to the 2000s really gave some thoughts to where would music trend to? A good or bad place? The 90s had a tough decade to follow with the 80s totally crushing it with great music, but they did manage to pull a few good tunes out of the bag.

Toni Braxton - You're Makin' Me High

That wraps up my #ttt for this week. I hope you are having a great musical Tuesday. Do you have a favorite 90s soul tune?

For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday.... to quote @ablaze :

The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.

Be sure to head over and give @ablaze some support as without his great work, we wouldn't have a #ttt.

I have to admit I'm not a soul specialist, Laureen Hill and Tony Braxton are big stars, but this Shola Ama is more to the point, I think. 😎

I was not familiar with the first two all that much. You are right though, it's annoying when they singer tries to get the audience to sing along. They're the one getting paid to perform! Both good songs though. Of course Braxton I know, good song! Great picks!

I'm all in for LH and Tony Braxton! I would also suggest Billy Mayers - Kiss the rain, from that momentum.

Yeah, she was pretty cool back in the day, along with Aaliyah. Sad what happened to Aaliyah though, left us too young.

Shola Ama live performance is really a vibe. Well, live performances are usually vibe only if they are live 😂 I hope you got my point.

Lauryn Hill stood out for me, I like her rap voice and how her music blends with the background beats. The 90s produced some great music :)

She was great from this era. The 90s really surprised with some great music I think. At times it seemed abit stale, but it came up pretty good in the end.
