Exploring Dresden Neustadt Train Station

Hello Wednesday Walkers!
I left you with a bit of a cliffhanger last time at the Frankfurt train station. Which train did I take? As you can see I took the train to Dresden Neustadt which is the walk I want to share with you today at my destination.

As you arrive at Dresden Neustadt station, it is an impressive building with a very open space entrance. There are actually two main train stations in Dresden, this one and the main central station. In reality, they are quite close to each other and I will visit that one next time.

2.jpg

The view from the square in front of the train station shows you some roadworks taking place. Lots of the city is being modernised and updated. It has a very relaxed vibe to it for sure. There is an area in the center of the square with trees for shade. This is important on a hot day. Underneath I found a few drunks drinking there and some passed out on the floor.

3.jpg

Before going and exploring the station further, I found there was a cellar area to the station.

As you go inside you are greeted by a nice open hall with many food purchasing opportunities. Chinese noodles among them and here are some of the fresh sandwiches that were on offer.

4.jpg

I explored further and crossed the station completely and exited to the other side. There was not too much to see here.

5.jpg

Exploring further onto the platforms I walked as far as was allowed and took a photo of the bridge and some of the views.

6.jpg

I traveled to the other side of the station and took some more photos, this time I could see towards the old town and you can make out the church tower in the distance.

7.jpg

Inside the station on the platforms, it wasn't so busy and everything was quite relaxed. The heat was quite intense though!

8.jpg

An ICE train arrived which I managed to capture here. I also found plenty of snacks available from the vending machines here.

9.jpg

Thanks for joining me on today's walk. Until the next time.

Not this time Ed. I have tried them on a previous trip though and they are good as they fry them fresh and very reasonable prices compared to West Germany.

Ah okay, so you had them before Steve. I must admit I did find quite a few differences between East and West on my travels there.

It was really nice on the ICE train. I usually go once or twice per year on a long train journey.

It's generally not so busy on the trains since covid. But in the east, it's pretty quiet anyways. !CTP

Looks like Dresden is quite quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of train stations like Frankfurt, Freiburg and Munich. I wonder why....

It is generally much quieter in the east, except Berlin. It has a really relaxed and laid back vibe to it here.

The train station is looking amazing and it's less busy indeed. Nice to be on a train station like that, as opposed to crowded ones.

I've only been in Leipzig once for a couple of hours - didn't have the time to really explore it but I've visited Dresden for five days. Great city!

This pictures of the train is so fascinating...how would it be like if I was there in person to feel the air and the environment. I love using train though that's except it's a destination farther than my usual take.
Nice photographs!

Wow, Dresden looks great today. I was there shortly after the wall came down, about 1992, if I remember correctly. The whole eastern region of Germany looked terrible. Somewhat to the country as a whole right now, infrastructure-wise.
Buildings literally falling apart, pot holes bigger than a Trabbi. Everything gray and nasty.
Cleaned up nicely in the meantime.
