Desaparecer ante el encuentro de un narcisista. | Disappearing When Facing a Narcissist. 🙅🏽♀️ [ESP/ENG]

Disappearing When Facing a Narcissist.

We have all been a bit selfish at times, thinking first of our own well-being or personal growth. However, there is a type of person who appears to be perfect, constantly seeking to be the center of attention and wanting others to see them as someone with an exemplary life or the most "correct" way of being. What happens when a narcissist encounters someone who doesn’t play along? We are confronted with the true face of someone unscrupulous, cruel, and completely lacking feelings or remorse.
You know you’ve met someone with this disorder when you are already deeply immersed in their game. They are calculating, they aren't afraid to cause harm, and they certainly don't think about the consequences of their actions. They are very intelligent and often pass off as "the best" professionals, friends, siblings, or partners—when the reality is that it's all just a facade put on to achieve their goals. These goals usually stem from their own desires, which they must satisfy one way or another because they never want to lose, and they never will because that’s what they set out to do.
Being with someone like this is exhausting. They can get you into trouble, and they create stories about you even if you share a close bond with them. They don't measure their actions; they always find a way to be first and to be fine in every aspect, even if it's at the expense of another person's happiness or suffering. There are quite dark and tragic cases where people who were close to someone with this disorder couldn't even make it out alive from such a toxic relationship. Because they don't care about your well-being or your life, no matter how much they might say so with words—all they want is to maintain their status and their mask of supposed perfection.

I feel that the first thing we must do when we realize we are in a relationship or a situation with a person with narcissistic disorder is to step away. Nothing we try—even with the best intentions—can change their mind or the ease with which they cause harm. It’s sad, because we can find them in our families, among our friends, or even in our partners. We tend to get attached to these people because of the intense interest they show when they first meet us, but later, when we want to let go of the situation, we are already deeply damaged and worn down by their cruel treatment and the illusion of having trusted someone like that.
I don't think there is a cure. To me, these people are born with this inside their personality, and the environment they grow up in simply makes the idea of being a perfect, special being grow endlessly. It is necessary to talk more about this type of person. The damage they can cause is unimaginable; they can be extremely dangerous if we give them space in our lives, and they can even make us doubt our own decisions and sanity. Because that’s how they are—they always find a way to twist the situation to make it favorable for them, without a single ounce of empathy or guilt.
The best thing to do is to disappear from these people's lives. It can be very difficult, especially if it involves someone close, like our parents or friends, because we hold onto the idea that we can handle the situation or that we can change them—when, in reality, they are never going to change, not even with treatment. It is something they have to live with, and although it seems like they have everything under control, in the end, it must be very sad when they run out of youth, money, and beauty. These three things are lethal to them because a large part of their manipulation depends on them. Letting go in time is the healthiest choice, along with cutting off all communication for our own well-being and mental health.
