Hello, dear friends of Holos & Lotus, I hope you are doing well 🫶🏽. I like being able to share here in the community and read everyone's posts; I feel it's one of the communities where I have learned the most things for my own life and in general, through other Hivers and their life stories. The posts by @emiliorios are always super interesting and leave you with a great reflection, or at least many questions to answer. The topic he shares with us in his latest post is about self-control.

We human beings have the ability to think and make decisions, we also have free will, and this allows us to live the way we think is right. But when we talk about self-control, I think a lot about how we spend almost our entire lives or existence looking for ways to improve those aspects of ourselves that aren't always so good. One of them would be how we react to certain emotions or impulses, especially in moments where we have the choice to let things go or get stuck in a situation.

Personally, I would like to have more self-control, and I think that before turning nearly thirty, I have gone through many moments where I didn't react in the best way due to my own fears and insecurities. Always with the idea that others were against what I thought or believed was right. That led me to live in a constant, more psychological war because I never felt—and sometimes it still happens to me—that people treated me a certain way just because I consider myself someone who is respectful and doesn't like trouble. At least that is what I thought during most of my adolescence and in my 20s.

When I came to the conclusion that I couldn't react to everything happening around me, it hit my ego and my reality hard, because I always wanted things to go well or be done the way I thought. But not everyone has the same heart or the same mindset as me, and that doesn't mean everyone else is wrong and I am the one who is right. I simply had to learn that in life there are all kinds of people and situations that teach us to repeat certain patterns or to move on and do things in a better way next time, always trying to leave something good in the world or in the people I meet.

For me, self-control is knowing what to do and what not to do when emotions scream that I should act a certain way. I cannot change the world, let alone the mindset of others, nor can I pretend that I am always the perfect or ideal person in all aspects of my life. But I try to make sure that when someone meets me, they know I am respectful, and I don't care much if you are someone with status or who possesses some kind of power. I think I care more about how you can make me feel depending on the way you are.

And well, I feel like I've had to learn to control the impulse of wanting to change things or people. Everyone knows what they are doing and why they do it; we are people with enough intelligence and reason to understand when we do something from the heart or when we are doing it with bad intentions. I have learned that I must be more cautious, but I shouldn't completely close myself off to meeting other people, because not everyone is the same. And I try not to let my self-control stop me from seeing the beauty in life, because there are many valuable things in the world and, even if we get hurt sometimes, it is always worth trying to move forward once more.

A veces acertamos y otras veces desmentimos.
