Hi to all. Last summer I had a trip to Pidkamen. I've never been there before. And my son Maxim was not there either.
The distance from my village to Pidkamen is 34 kilometers and up to 40 minutes on the road.
My friend @lilideleopolis invited us on this trip, kindly followed us and the three of us went on an adventure!

In the distance you can see the ancient monastery

Pidkamin is a cozy town in the Lviv region. The city is built at the foot of the mountain. Population up to 3000 people. Known for its legends and historical monuments. Excavations are still being carried out and archaeologists are finding ancient coins and ancient burials
Although our main goal is to see a giant stone, our first stop was at the Polish cemetery, which is located on the opposite side of the monastery.
The cemetery is overgrown with grass and bushes. It was difficult to see the ancient monuments on the graves. It was difficult for us to move, and Maxim was afraid to burn himself with nettles. So we decided to return at another time of year when there will be no grass. We were interested to see the chapel of the Polish Zetner family. The walls should be beautifully painted in the middle. But we could not see it.
And we decided to continue the journey by driving to the entrance to one of the oldest monasteries in my country.

This day was distinguished by the warmth of the air, although the sky was overcast, but the sun illuminated everything around. My son was happy with such a space. He liked to go with adults. Maxim was expecting a meeting with a large stone.

When Maxim saw the stone from the walls of the monastery, he was very happy. He wanted to go to him faster. But my friend and I decided that we would first visit the ancient monastery, and then go down to the stone.

Not only a large stone could be seen from the walls of the monastery. But also the houses of peasants, as well as fields and gardens, horses and cows grazed on the pastures.

Three-arch bell tower, no bells.

Here we climb higher and higher to the entrance of the monastery. It is built on a rock. There used to be a rock monastery here. This is evidenced by two caves in the rock below the monastery. Subsequently, Dominican monks for almost a hundred years built the walls of the temple at the expense of Polish magnates. Stones for construction were taken from a local quarry. The walls fell several times during construction.
The date 1704 is engraved on the gate. This is the year of completion of construction.

In the eighteenth century, a clock tower was added to the main cathedral. Now this tower is on scaffolding and needs restoration. The cathedral is also closed. We were lucky to meet one of the two monks who live here and take care of this place. He let us into the chapel and told us a little about the monastery. He also showed a place on the walls, from which you can see the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin of Pochayiv Lavra. And we saw this golden-domed snow-white cathedral in the distance. This is a miracle!

The first mention in writing about the monastery in 1464, after which it was destroyed and looted several more times.
In general, the monks built a real fortress, which stood for several centuries, survived the wars. It is also known that there are underground passages under the monastery. In the courtyard was a deep well, which was dug by monks for 18 years in a solid rock, until the water went. The depth of the well is one hundred meters.

20211117_125321.jpg

During the world wars the monastery suffered significant losses and in 1945 was liquidated. In 1946, the Soviet authorities organized a concentration camp for the Ukrainian clergy and a transit prison in Soviet times. This caused great damage to the place, as the prisoners burned almost all the interior decoration of the monastery in order not to freeze.
Later, a closed psychoneurological boarding school was established in the monastery walls. The temple was turned into a stable, and even later into a garage. Grain was stored in one chapel, mineral fertilizers in another, and prison guards were fed in another.

At this time, Maxim is already quite hungry. And I know that it is good to take chocolate on a trip, it satisfies hunger and quickly gives strength to move on. After all, another ancient monument was waiting for us

20211117_125341.jpg

20211117_125353.jpg

Suddenly from the sunny sky clouds gathered in a thunderstorm. Me, Maxim and my friend barely had time to run to the car. Everything around turned gray and dark. It was really scary. A real summer storm. For a while we sat in the car, watching the drops slide down the windows.

20211117_125403.jpg

20211117_125427.jpg

20211117_125446.jpg

When the storm finally subsided, we got out of the car. According to my friend, I always wear clothes that do not suit travel. But I want to look good in the photo, and in dresses, and that's my style.
Examining the wet walls of the monastery, we noticed a rainbow. It shone with bright colors in the sun. A few minutes later, we noticed another rainbow above it. It was a double rainbow over the monastery in Pidkamen. This is the first time I have seen such a miracle in my life.

20211117_125458.jpg

20211117_125545.jpg

20211117_125614.jpg

20211117_125630.jpg

It is a great happiness to see such a miracle. There is a favorable period for any business, dreams will come true, work will be successful. Something is wrong and something is not, but everything in my life is going at its own pace. And all the work requires effort and a lot of patience.

20211117_125644.jpg

20211117_125708.jpg

We went down the path to the stone, very carefully the grass was wet and slippery. I was afraid of falling or slipping from the mountain. Between the stone and the monastery some 7-10 minutes walk. We passed by stone tracts, high thistles.

20211117_125728.jpg

20211117_125558.jpg

The giant stone grew larger and taller as we approached it. Its height is about 17 meters, sandstone. There is a stone left from the bottom of the Sarmatian Sea, which covered the local lands, 10-15 million years ago.
Somewhere a peer of stone from my village Trinig.
I wrote here

20211117_125741.jpg

20211117_125752.jpg
Here the stone reminds me of two hands folded for prayer to heaven.

20211118_004956.jpg

Scientists have studied the stone. And they came to the conclusion that a fortress was built on the stone, or a covering for funeral rituals. After all, there are Cossack burials and ancient crosses nearby.
This stone is also called the "Devil's Stone". Because according to the legend, the devil carried this stone to throw and destroy Pochaiv Cathedral. But early on the roosters crowed and scared the devil. He threw a stone at this place and fled.

20211117_125818.jpg

20211117_125832.jpg

20211117_125855.jpg

Maxim really liked it here by the stone. He tried to climb higher, looking at the carved letters of modernity. From this place the whole horizon around was also clearly visible.

It was a wonderful trip this summer day. Something could not be seen, and something surprised. We returned home tired and satisfied.
Thank you very much for all your attention. See you soon and travel!
