Yesterday was Saudi Arabia's National Day. Oman and Saudi both are part of the GCC states and hence they have close ties with each other. Though there are lot of cultural differences but there are some common grounds and trade ties so they do respect each other and participate in each other's celebrations. I have never been a fan of the Saudi Arabia Country, for various reasons. The respect for women in this Country is very poor and they do not have equal rights which is a big-time injustice for the local woman of the Country. In the recent times Saudi Arabia has been on a fast run in its developments and a lot of new projects are being heard of. Like the most recent project which is going on the Linear city stretching over 100 kms, the Red Sea project where a mega resort is coming up and many such other projects, which is bringing more attention to this Country.

In the recent times from what I read and hear is that there has been quite a lot of improvement in the women rights front, but it still is a long way to go. You never know over the next few decades Saudi Arabia may become the new Dubai full of glamour and high lifestyle, with almost everything to do there. The world is changing rapidly and so are these Countries also.

Here are some of the pictures from the celebrations. The celebrations were done in honor to celebrate their National day but in the more traditional Omani way where there were different acts put up like the Dance, Sword act, singing and other individual and group performances.

Pictures of both the Kings of Oman and Saudi are put up all across the place.

This event was being done in one of the Courtyards of a township. A big gathering has taken place.

A Sword and Gun act is put up. In the whole of Arabian culture Sword is a symbol of strength, dignity, honor and pride and hence you will always see the pictures of Swords and acts with it on such occasions. High level dignitaries on important occasions also carry a dagger in a waist band. It is a symbol of power and status. There was no firing done with the Guns, it was only a prop.

It's always nice to see these kinds of shows and understand the culture and traditions of other countries.
