Digital scams are at a good rise now and every day we keep hearing of new type of scams. Nowadays people have to be more careful about digital theft then actual robbery. We think that digital scams are from the recent times but no, they have started since the time internet came in to place for use of common people. There is a incident that happened with me around 2001 or 2002, which is like more then 20 years now. This was the time when mobile phones were just getting popular and there were no smart phones. There were no apps also and banking systems were still traditional. ATMs were not very common. It was the beginning time of all this advanced technology.

In all of this Internet was the king then. One day I received an email from an unknown address, saying I won some huge amount in dollars in a lottery and to validate the win they needed my personal details like my Name, Address, Phone No and Bank Account No to transfer the amount. I was super excited and really felt it to be genuine. That time the knowledge of identifying fake email IDs was not there, nor the scams were commonly heard of. So I had no clue it could be a scam. Also my bank account most of the time was at minimum balance then. Getting an email like this felt super exciting of winning some huge amount of money. I sent them all the details as requested.

When hubby returned from office in the evening, I told him about this email and also that I sent them the required information. He laughed at me saying how could I actually believe this crap. He told me it was a scam, he had heard of it from some one. I went so cold at that time. Anyways I had nothing much to worry about because there was barely any money in my account in those days for anyone to steal....haha. I guess the person may have hacked my account and seeing the balance must have given up in a pitiful manner.....haha.

Till date I keep getting those emails that I won some lottery or something like I have been selected by someone for their estate transfer to my name.....How I wish it was real ;-) I felt so foolish at that time, how could I actually believe such crap. I did not even use my brain that I had not taken any lottery then how will I win. That's how these scammers operate, they either lure you or put you in extreme fear mode and try to manipulate you.
