The New Generation Vs the Old

The teenagers these days you see have all together a different level of confidence. When I was that age, I feel I was so dumb in comparison to them. In today's time you have to think twice before you speak with your children, for them they are never wrong. They are always right and doing the right things and it seems like they know it all. I also feel that the older generation always want to keep giving them advice thinking they know it all and trying to prove that whatever they are saying is right. Who is right and who is wrong. I don't think so there is any right or wrong here. It's just a matter of perspective.

Life 20 to 30 years back was very different and experiences were different so whatever the older generation is saying based on what they experienced in their time and what worked for them and what did not work for them. But the same may not be relevant now because times have changed, circumstances have changed and with that the relevance has also changed. As far as the younger generation is concerned, they are also right in putting their point across, because that's in light with the recent times and conditions and they are up to date with that.

There has been a total lifestyle change, technology has advanced like crazy, even the education systems have changed, the influence of social media is strong and moreover the natural course of evolvement of our genes is also continuously in progress through the generations. In such a case our level of thinking and living life will also differ from one generation to another. At the same time, I also feel that both the generations should complement with each other and take the best from each other. While the new generation may be smart enough but experience of life is the best teacher and that cannot be discounted from the older generation.

When we are in our teenage times and prime youth anyways that level of confidence and the spirit to conquer the world is very high. We have not spent enough time in our life to experience it and that makes us take irrational decisions at times. In the reverse the older generation should also with an open mind learn the new ways of life and their ego should not come in their way to stop them from learning from someone who is much younger to them. The younger generation has more of Book knowledge and the older generation has more of real-world experience. Both the book and the real-world knowledge are important. The books are also written by some wise people. You cannot ignore either one.

Just for e.g., in the olden times people had to work hard to earn money, there were limited sources of income. In today's time we have many sources to earn and there are easy ways also. When a young person goes easy on life, possibly the older person will not be able to accept that easily and they would think he or she is wasting time, because for them the concept of earning money is always the hard way. The definition of respecting people, values of life, religious beliefs, you will find a lot of conflict in all of these areas between the two.

The one fact of life is that time never stops and these conflicts will always continue, because the now younger generation will someday become the older one and then they may face the same challenges with their new generation, because times would have changed in many ways then also.

Very true! I often battle with my mum about who knows better and we never arrive at a concrete conclusion because both parties carry weight in their viewpoints. I try to understand and see her perspective but she hardly understands or even tries to see mine :)

My Son also feels the same, but I do agree to most of the things he say and try to relate it with his generation and from his point of view which makes the communication easy. But there are certain matters where we always have a conflict.

Indeed, there are some fundamentals aspects that cannot be bridged from one generation to another. I think the concept of work is one of them.

a very interesting topic
I often think about it too. Our parents had absolutely different life, our grandparents - again the life that is far from what we and our parents had. It's hard for us to understand them, and our kids have so different life again, but I think now we've much more possibilities and knowledge to create healthy and strong relationships between us avoiding all mistakes of the past.

You know what when Yohan was small I used to feel that I will never have these conflict issues because I have never been rigid in any of my thoughts, but then now that he is a grown up man and sometimes certain things that he comes up with are beyond my comprehension and we do have our share of arguments, though they are healthy, there is a difference of opinion. I guess it just happens naturally with different generations.

sure, my dear. Even if we are very close with our kids, we are another generation, and some differences in our opinions are normal.
And it's so cool he CAN argue with you and can say his opinion free and open. It means he is confident in your love and he knows you take him in any case, so he has freedom to be himself, not just his parents copy💚

Namaste mataji. Respect for our parents is a corner stone of civilized life. Even if a youth thinks they know better, and has more info, still they should offer respect to the parents, who are the first guru after all.

That's very true, those are some of the fundamentals of life. And I also believe that respect is mutual, so parents should also not stay in this ego of only gaining respect from their children and not giving it back to them.

Yes respect should also be commanded, not demanded. In other words the person should show that they are worthy of respect and not simply demand it out of status based on general cultural etiquette.
