TERRORISM AND BANDITRY THREATENS NIGERIA
Nigeria is argueably the largest country in Africa both in economy and population,Nigeria as a country got her independence in 1960 which makes them free from the British colonial rulers known as the colonial Masters.after the independence in 1960, the country has never really got to where it is expected to be in among other countries in the world most especially on the aspect of economic and good infrastructure,just to mention a few.
Nigeria as a country has had a lot of obstacles since it independence raging from the 1967 civil war that lasted many years down to the Igbos also known as the southeast seeking to have their own country called biafra.this agitation by the Igbos was because they feel marginalize in the countries affaire.up till this moment the Igbos are still agitating for separation despite the death of their leader odumegu ochukwu. But despite all this struggle by some section o f the country,the country has still remains one till date.
Nigeria being the largest economy in African contribute to about a quarter of the continent economy.but despite it being the largest economy in the continent,there seem to be imbalance in the activities of the country ranging from political instability,poor infrastructure, corruption and many more.
The most ravaging of all is the terrorism and banditry which has become the logo of the country. In the past ten years
Nigeria has recorded uncountable number of deaths through terrorism and banditry,so many people has been kidnapped and killed.one of the most popular terrorist group in the country is the Boko Haram which are very prevalent in the north central region of Nigeria. A lot of attack and atrocities have been carried out by this group and yet nothing has been done by the government to cumb it's activities in the country.
This terrorist group has cause the displacement of people in various part of the north rendering a lot of the people homeless and invading towns in the north. The bone of contention is that the government is not making any meaningful effort in eradicating terrorism instead they are gaining more resilience with their heinous activities.indirectly one can say that there are some strong in the government sponsoring the activities of this terrorist group in the country.
The implications of terrorism and banditry in the economy is becoming a major insecurity issues in the country.one major effect o f this terrorist group in the north is that they have caus low production of farm products in the area as most of the northernans are predominantly farmers thereby leading to food shortage.one major problem is that the government is not helping issues when it comes to insecurities, it's handling is very poor compare to what the citizens are expecting from the government.
Terrorism and banditry in the country has brought extreme poverty to a lot of people affect by the activities of this terrorist group,most of the time,they tent to invade the homes and business of this people destroying their source of income and livelihood thereby causing more poverty to the people.
Insecurity is not just a problem in the north but it has now spread to all part of the country and this is affecting the status and economic balance of the country ,this has also lead more more Nigerians wanting to travel out of the country for a better greener pastures and live in a place where they will be free from terrorism and banditry.
If this issue of terrorism and banditry is not been given the proper attention it deserves now,with time Nigeria as a country will be no more as this may lead the country to a downward spiral which might be very hard for the country to emerge from it.
