This Sunday, we headed to the Caripe tourist lookout because it was my niece's birthday and she wanted to visit the place. Since the goal was to make the birthday girl happy, we looked into the costs and made all the necessary arrangements. We checked the price of bus tickets—which cost $12 per person—but ultimately decided to rent a car for the trip, which cost us $40.

Este domingo fuimos al mirador turístico de Caripe porque era el cumpleaños de mi sobrina y ella quería visitar este lugar. Como el objetivo era complacer a la cumpleañera, averiguamos los costos e hicimos todos los preparativos necesarios. We set out around 9 a.m. and took the Cumaná-Cumanacoa route, which is very pleasant thanks to the abundance of trees and the excellent condition of the roads. Since we wanted to arrive at our destination early, we made just one stop in Cumanacoa for coffee and a bite to eat, and then continued on our way immediately afterward. The drive from Cumaná to Caripe takes approximately two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the Caripe Tourist Lookout, we saw a lot of cars, but thankfully the parking lot is large. There is a $1 entrance fee; since there were 10 of us, we paid $10. We had been told they only accepted cash, but that turned out not to be true—I used my card without any issues, and we were given our wristbands and went in.

Visually, the Mirador is a striking spot, designed so that you can take photos in every corner. It offers not only a natural landscape and a beautiful view of the town of Caripe—where you truly understand why it is called "The Garden of the East"—but also a host of locations, images, and spaces perfect for photography and simply spending time. Everything is very well-organized, well-maintained, and lovely.

Visualmente, el Mirador es un lugar impresionante, diseñado para que puedas tomar fotos en cada rincón. No solo ofrece un paisaje natural y una hermosa vista del pueblo de Caripe —donde realmente comprendes por qué se le llama «El Jardín del Oriente»—, sino también una gran variedad de escenarios, imágenes y espacios perfectos para la fotografía y, simplemente, para pasar el rato. Todo está muy bien organizado, bien cuidado y es encantador.

As we walked, we saw several kiosks selling hot coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. There were also stalls offering traditional sweets, tequeños, and the famous strawberries with cream. Additionally, there was a restaurant, a nightclub, a children's playground, and plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by.

Since the plan was to take photos everywhere, that is exactly what we did. We took a picture at every spot where it was possible. We posed inside the "arch of love," with the colorful wings, next to the fuchsia car, and even on the giant hand—a feature that has gone viral among the country's influencers, who come to the Mirador specifically to be photographed on it. It was so popular that people were actually lining up to get their picture taken there.

Como el plan era tomarnos fotos por todas partes, eso fue exactamente lo que hicimos. Nos tomamos fotos en cada lugar donde fue posible. Posamos bajo el «arco del amor», junto a las alas coloridas, al lado del coche fucsia e incluso en la mano gigante, un elemento que se ha vuelto viral entre los influencers del país, quienes acuden al mirador específicamente para fotografiarse en ella. Era tan popular que la gente incluso hacía cola para tomarse una foto allí.

Naturally, I didn't miss out and took plenty of photos. One thing that caught my eye was an archway with padlocks intended for couples. Supposedly, couples perform a ritual there by attaching a padlock to the railing and throwing away the key; the lock symbolizes their commitment and union. It was so crowded that I think they’ll need to create another spot for the future.

Como era de esperar, no quise perdérmelo y saqué muchas fotos. Algo que me llamó la atención fue un arco con candados destinados a las parejas. Al parecer, las parejas realizan allí un ritual que consiste en colocar un candado en la barandilla y tirar la llave; el candado simboliza su compromiso y unión. Había tanta gente que creo que tendrán que habilitar otro lugar en el futuro.

After that, even though the weather was pleasant, the sun was very strong, so we decided to sit quietly at one of the tables while one of my nieces amused herself at the playground. We enjoyed some strawberries and cream and chatted at length, watching as the place filled up with more and more people.

Since we intended to return to Cumaná that same day, we decided to leave the Viewpoint early so we wouldn't get caught out after dark. Naturally, we promised to come back to Caripe—not for a whirlwind trip, but to stay for a few days—because, judging by what we heard and saw, the viewpoint must look stunning at night. So, I owe you those photos for next time.

Como teníamos previsto regresar a Cumaná ese mismo día, decidimos marcharnos temprano del Mirador para que no nos sorprendiera la noche. Naturalmente, prometimos volver a Caripe —no para una visita fugaz, sino para quedarnos unos días—, ya ​​que, a juzgar por lo que oímos y vimos, el mirador debe de verse impresionante de noche.
