A trip to the beautiful Las Maritas beach

Hello, dear friends who love travel and discovering new places. As promised, today I bring you a short tour of one of the most popular and famous beaches in Mochima: Las Maritas.

As I mentioned in my previous post, a few weeks ago we went to Mochima, a town located on the border of Sucre state (where I live) and Anzoátegui state.

As I mentioned in my previous post, we took a vehicle on Perimetral Avenue in the city of Cumaná, near the Virgen del Valle Church. The fare was 1,000 bolivars, which is roughly equivalent to $1.50. After half an hour, we were already entering the town of Mochima.

Upon arriving in Mochima, we went straight to the dock to ask about the prices of boat trips to the different beaches. We didn't have to ask much because there's a huge sign with all the prices for the trips and excursions.

We wanted to go to Playa Blanca and saw that the trip for eight people cost $50. We were lucky because we found a very friendly young man who gave us the trip for $40. We all boarded his boat and put on our life jackets.

This trip is fun and beautiful, as you can see the different shades of the sea, depending on the depth and distance. If you're lucky, you might see dolphins leaping about on this trip. Unfortunately, we weren't lucky enough to see them.

Before arriving at Playa Blanca, we realized it was quite crowded and the waves were strong, so we decided to change our plans and go to Las Maritas, a shallower beach closer to town, about 10 minutes away.

Before getting off the boat, we told the boatman what time he could come back for us. After that, someone who rented beach umbrellas approached us and offered their services. An umbrella with a table and six chairs cost $15.

When we arrived, there were few people on the beach, but they gradually started arriving. This beach has restaurants, restrooms, an ice cream cart, and even inflatable boats offering tours. There was also internet access, but it cost 800 bolivars, which is about $1.30.

One of the attractions of Las Maritas is that it's a family-friendly beach with calm waters, where children can swim safely. Likewise, the boats that arrive are there to transport or pick up people or supplies.

Although we brought our own food and drinks, we wanted to check the menu at one of the restaurants. Most of the kiosks only sell seafood, like fish and shellfish. Prices vary depending on the type of fish and how it's prepared. For example, we ordered "fish fingers," which were breaded pieces of white-skinned fish, served with salad, tostones (fried plantains), and arepa (corn cake), for $12.

You also can't leave without trying the other fresh ones, which cost 3,000 bolivars a dozen. They also offered delicious homemade seafood pickles, which ranged from $10 to $30 depending on the ingredients and the size of the jar.

The water and atmosphere of Las Maritas are so perfect that you just want to relax and breathe slowly, not only because of the soothing sound of the waves, but also because of the many shades of blue that reach you from the sea and the sky.

As we had told him, the boatman arrived at 4 to take us back to the town of Mochima. And although it was raining, the return trip was calm and relaxing. It must be because we could still feel the rocking of the waves in our bodies.

Sounds and looked like a very fun a relaxing trip. That beach seems so inviting and calm. Too bad you were not able to see the dolphins. The food looked yummy as well. Hope all is well for you with all that has happened there.

The area where I live wasn't affected, thank God, even though my city is in a seismic zone. The tremor was felt strongly, but that's all. Thanks for your comment and concern, friend. Best regards.
