Como recordarán, la semana pasada les comenté que había sido invitada para Manicuare, a la casa del poeta Cruz Salmerón Acosta. Y el que va a Manicuare debe ir a Araya porque sería un pecado no ir y porque queda ahí cerquita o como decimos los orientales: "Ahi mismito".

As you may remember, last week I told you that I had been invited to Manicuare, to the house of the poet Cruz Salmerón Acosta. And whoever goes to Manicuare must go to Araya because it would be a sin not to go and because it is close by, or as we say in the East: "Ahi mismito" (right there).

Por tierra o por mar, podemos ir a Araya. En esta ocasión tomamos una lancha que sale del terminal marítimo de Cumaná, ubicado en Puerto Sucre. La lancha sale a las 10:30 de la mañana, pero hay que estar con dos horas de anticipación; es decir, llegamos a las 8:30. Aun así, a esa hora había mucha gente.

By land or by sea, we can go to Araya. On this occasion we take a boat that leaves from the maritime terminal of Cumaná, located in Puerto Sucre. The boat leaves at 10:30 in the morning, but you have to be there two hours in advance; that is, we arrived at 8:30. Even so, at that time there were many people.

El viaje en esa lancha dura 45 minutos. Cuando llegamos al pueblo nos alistamos a caminar rumbo a la playa del castillo. La idea es que se pongan protector solar porque la distancia entre el muelle y la playa no es tan corta y el sol es bravo.

Al llegar a la playa alquilamos un toldo. Como éramos dos personas, alquilamos un toldo con dos sillas que tuvo un valor de 5 dólares. El alquiler de un toldo con mesa y silla está 250 bolívares.

When we got to the beach we rented a canopy. Since there were two of us, we rented an awning with two chairs for $5. The rental of an awning with table and chair is 250 bolivars.

Como estamos ya en época de promociones estudiantiles, tres colegios estaban haciendo su fiesta de despedida en la playa. Así que se podrán imaginar la cantidad de niños, maestros y representantes. Tenía tiempo que no veía la playa de Araya tan llena de visitantes.

As we are already in the season of student promotions, three schools were having their farewell party on the beach. So you can imagine the amount of children, teachers and representatives. It had been a long time since I had seen Araya beach so full of visitors.

Una de las cosas que quería hacer era tomar unas fotos bien chéveres en La Real Fortaleza de Santiago de Arroyo, conocida como el Castillo de Araya, pero había tantos niños y jóvenes, que preferí dejarlo para otro día (esta será una excelente excusa para volver a Araya pronto).

Si hay una cosa que trato de hacer cuando voy a la playa es tomar el sol. Me gusta quitarme el pálido apio de los días de trabajo y llenarme de vitamina D, tan fundamental para el ánimo y para mantener la energía.

Una de las tantas cosas que se puede hacer en Araya es quedarse viendo el infinito. Sentados, respirando el aire fresco, miramos las embarcaciones que van y vienen, como las olas, y el mar azul que se confunde con el cielo.
