I once went on vacation to an all-inclusive hotel: tours, games, unlimited food and drinks 24 hours a day. To be precise, in the hotel dining room there was a kind of buffet, with piles of all kinds of food, and people could choose and eat as much as they wanted, whenever they wanted, and in whatever quantities they fancied. To my surprise, while I put only the foods I wanted on my plate, the ones that truly appealed to me, I saw how most people ate voraciously, quickly, greedily, as if seeing so much food in one place had awakened an insatiable hunger. I remember thinking then that sometimes, for some people, it's never enough, and that nowadays there's an emptiness not only in the stomach, but also in the spirit.

I don't know about you, but I know many people who have everything and yet still feel like something is missing. They have a brand-new car, a luxurious house, great love, good health, plenty of money, and they complain because it's not enough for them. They always want more: more money, more love, more possessions. In fact, as they acquire more, they want more, as if nothing could quell their desire, their hunger for what they don't have. Apparently, for many people today, nothing is ever enough.

I always say that I'll probably never become a millionaire, because even for me, money and work have their limits. Just like the food I put on my plate, which is just enough to satisfy me, no more and no less, so it is with money and work. I don't feel I should work more than necessary just for money, and I don't believe that having enough money to cover all my needs, I should seek more money for the sole purpose of increasing my bank accounts or impressing others.

Personally, I don't need a brand-new car to travel or leave the house: I get around happily on public transport, without stress or frustration. Nor do I look down on the places I visit just because they're humble and not among the top five most beautiful places in the world. On the contrary, I'm grateful for the opportunity to visit different towns and learn a little about their culture. I don't save my happiness for when I buy a case of beer; I'm happy when I have one, and that's enough. Of course, I like gifts, but receiving just a birthday greeting is more than enough for me. Maybe I don't have a perfect family, but they're the ones who love me, take care of me, and are there for me unconditionally. Maybe I don't have everything, but what I have is enough to be happy.

Para mi sorpresa, mientras yo solo ponía en mi plato lo que me apetecía, lo que de verdad me gustaba, vi cómo la mayoría de la gente comía con voracidad, rapidez y avidez, como si ver tanta comida en un solo lugar hubiera despertado un hambre insaciable. Recuerdo haber pensado entonces que a veces, para algunas personas, nunca es suficiente, y que hoy en día hay un vacío no solo en el estómago, sino también en el espíritu.

No sé ustedes, pero conozco a mucha gente que lo tiene todo y aun así siente que le falta algo. Tienen un coche nuevo, una casa lujosa, un gran amor, buena salud, dinero de sobra, y se quejan porque no les basta. Siempre quieren más: más dinero, más amor, más posesiones. De hecho, cuanto más adquieren, más quieren, como si nada pudiera saciar su deseo, su hambre de lo que no tienen. Al parecer, para mucha gente hoy en día, nada es suficiente.

Siempre digo que probablemente nunca seré millonaria, porque incluso para mí, el dinero y el trabajo tienen sus límites. Al igual que la comida que me sirvo, que es la justa para satisfacerme, ni más ni menos, así sucede con el dinero y el trabajo. No creo que deba trabajar más de lo necesario solo por dinero, y no creo que, teniendo suficiente dinero para cubrir todas mis necesidades, deba buscar más dinero con el único propósito de aumentar mis cuentas bancarias o impresionar a los demás.

Personalmente, no necesito un coche nuevo para viajar o salir de casa: me muevo felizmente en transporte público, sin estrés ni frustración. Tampoco menosprecio los lugares que visito solo porque sean modestos y no estén entre los cinco lugares más bellos del mundo. Al contrario, agradezco la oportunidad de visitar diferentes pueblos y aprender un poco sobre su cultura. No reservo mi felicidad para cuando compro una caja de cerveza; soy feliz cuando tengo una, y eso es suficiente. Claro que me gustan los regalos, pero recibir una simple felicitación de cumpleaños es más que suficiente para mí. Quizás no tenga una familia perfecta, pero son ellos quienes me aman, me cuidan y están ahí para mí incondicionalmente. Quizás no lo tenga todo, pero lo que tengo es suficiente para ser feliz.
