Tour of the area surrounding Las Maritas

In my previous posts, I told you about the spectacular day I spent in Mochima, specifically at Las Maritas, one of the most popular and beautiful beaches in the area.

Las Maritas is known not only for being one of the closest beaches to townβ€”just a 10- or 15-minute boat ride awayβ€”but also for its crystal-clear blue water, white sand, and shallow waters, making it the perfect beach if you have children.

But another of the most striking features of this beach is its surroundings, filled with large and small stones and a vast natural carpet of seashells, pieces of coral, and dried seaweed. A must-see if you're lucky enough to visit this beach.

As a recommendation, you should apply plenty of sunscreen to your body and face if you plan to do this hike. You should also wear a hat or cap and, most importantly, wear suitable and comfortable footwear that protects your feet, as the path is full of sharp and slippery stones that can cause falls.

Although the sea is nearby, the vegetation in this area is xerophytic, dry, and sparse. There are no leafy trees, which is why the sun is so harsh. The little vegetation that exists is neither lush nor dense, consisting only of shrubs and dry branches. Similarly, there are places where the soil is orange or ochre.

As you walk, you might find treasures: a graveyard of enormous corals that blend in with the rocks. If you're like me and enjoy collecting stones, pieces of coral, shells, and snails, you'll be thrilled because there are colorful pebbles, small and large, and even snails perfect for decorating or making jewelry.

Because of its beauty and unique character, this landscape is perfect for taking photographs. The open sea, the stones that range in color from white to black, the white sand, and the carpet of broken coral create a striking and unique view of this beach.

We learned that many adventurous tourists used to choose this area of the beach for camping, but due to new regulations, it's now prohibited. Although the locals say that with proper permission, some researchers have spent the night in this area, but only during the off-season.

While collecting pebbles and seashells and taking photographs, we saw the sky begin to cloud over and evening approaching. We noticed our family waving to us in the distance because the boat that would take us back to town was approaching, so we decided to return, our faces tanned, our hair full of salt, but happy.

Saludos.
