Ha llegado enero, trayendo consigo esperanzas de transformación positiva y cambio liberador. Con él llegó la creencia de que tendremos la suerte de perder peso, atraer dinero, encontrar el amor, viajar, conseguir un trabajo en este nuevo año, simplemente porque el 31 nos atiborramos de lentejas y uvas, utilizamos ropa interior amarilla y sacamos nuestra maleta a pasear a las 12 en punto: en el último momento, realizamos una larga lista de rituales heredados y otros que están actualmente en boga. Hacemos como ese estudiante que, en el último momento, intenta estudiar para aprobar el examen. Pero la vida se desarrolla de otra manera...
El año nuevo no cambia la vida de nadie si seguimos haciendo lo mismo, aunque comamos un millón de uvas. Una persona con gorda no perderá peso a menos que tome la decisión de comer mejor y hacer ejercicios a diario. El cambio no se produce por sí solo, como por arte de magia. Se produce después de tomar conciencia, crear nuevos hábitos y trabajar para conseguir lo que queremos o necesitamos. No es cuestión de milagros, sino de trabajo duro, perseverancia, determinación y disciplina.
Si bien es cierto que enero es una página en blanco en la que comenzamos a escribir, no es más que otro capítulo de tu vida. Un nuevo capítulo, sí, pero uno en el que llevas contigo las heridas anteriores, las lecciones aprendidas y los mismos problemas de los capítulos anteriores, si es que esos problemas no se han resuelto. Por lo tanto, en lugar de hacer una lista de cosas que queremos, podemos empezar a hacer una lista de hábitos que queremos abandonar o una lista de cosas que necesitamos hacer. Porque recuerda: "No esperes resultados diferentes si haces lo mismo de siempre".
Tener dinero puede ser el sueño de todos, pero como solía decir mi abuela: "Deseos no preñan, ni el hambre engorda". No se trata solo de desear o querer; se trata de hacer. Si quiero tener dinero y mi trabajo no me lo da, puedo dejarlo y buscar otro que me pague mejor, puedo ahorrar, puedo tener dos trabajos, incluso. Si trabajar no es lo mío y creo en un golpe de suerte, como ganar la lotería, por ejemplo, entonces al menos juego a la lotería o camino mirando al suelo porque podría encontrar un billete de 100 dólares. En resumen, haz algo que te acerque a lo que quieres.
Enero tiene 31 días que muchos de nosotros pensamos que pasan lentamente. Si no haces nada en esos 31 días para empezar a convertirte en la versión de ti mismo que quieres ser, el calendario tiene otros 11 meses con días de 24 horas para que hagas ese trabajo. 2026 es un nuevo capítulo, pero tu vida seguirá siendo la misma si tú no cambias. With it came the belief that we will be lucky enough to lose weight, attract money, find love, travel, get a job in this new year, simply because on the 31st we stuffed ourselves with lentils and grapes, wore yellow underwear, and took our suitcase out for a walk at 12 o'clock sharp: at the last minute, we performed a long list of inherited rituals and others that are currently in vogue. The new year doesn't change anyone's life if we keep doing the same things, even if you eat a million grapes. Someone who is overweight won't lose weight unless they make the decision to eat better and exercise daily. Change doesn't happen on its own, as if by magic. It comes after becoming aware, creating new habits, and working toward what we want or need. It's not a matter of miracles, but of hard work, perseverance, determination, and discipline.
While it's true that January is a blank page on which we begin to write, it's just another chapter in your life. A new chapter, yes, but one in which you bring with you previous wounds, lessons learned, and the same problems from previous chapters, if those problems haven't been resolved. So, rather than making a list of things we want, we can start making a list of habits we want to give up or a list of things we need to do. Because remember: “Don't expect different results if you do the same thing as always.”
Having money may be everyone's dream, but as my grandmother used to say, “Wishing doesn't get you pregnant, and hunger doesn't make you fat.” It's not just about wishing or wanting; it's about doing. If I want to have money and my job doesn't give me that money, I can quit my job and look for another one that pays me better, I can save, I can have two jobs. If working isn't my thing and I believe in a stroke of luck, winning the lottery, for example, then at least play the lottery, walk around looking at the ground because you might find a $100 bill. In short, do something that brings you closer to what you want.
January has 31 days that many of us think pass slowly. If you don't do anything in those 31 days to start becoming the version of yourself you want to be, the calendar has another 11 months with 24-hour days for you to do that work. 2026 is a new chapter, but your life will remain the same. A new year doesn't erase the past, but it does give us the opportunity to change. Let's take advantage of it.
