Almost every Israel–Palestine argument follows the same loop:
"Israel did X."
"Yeah, because the Palestinians did Y."
"Yeah, because Israel did Z."
"Yeah, but only because the Arabs did A."

If the timeline is extended far enough, it leads to the point where Western powers imposed a newly created ethnostate on top of an existing civilization without consent, to the severe detriment of the people already living there

Appeals to "the Jews lived there thousands of years ago" don't justify modern territorial claims; there's no reason to assume a Jewish person in New York has a stronger claim by lineage than a random Muslim in Turkey, and even if there were, ancient history is a poor basis for seizing someone else's home

Even ancestry a few generations back in Ireland and Scotland wouldn't legitimize showing up and demanding another person's residence

The original grievance therefore traces to the artificial creation of an ethnonational state in the mid-20th century and the Zionist and Western imperialist efforts that enabled it

The result has been generations of continuous violence and abuse, culminating in the slaughter and chaos across the Middle East today
That creation was a mistake that should be addressed

Critics are often accused of calling for the extermination of Jews when they say this, but that claim is false; dismantling a national order that privileges one group's interests over another and remedying historic injustices would inconvenience many Jewish residents without implying their extermination

Apartheid South Africa was dismantled without mass killing of white people, and there is no reason to believe dismantling apartheid Israel would require extermination of Jews

The Israel experiment has been tried and has failed; it is time to pursue a different approach
