Escaping from a golden cage

And there I was with my solitude, I was finally free, and I felt I could breathe. He was thousands of miles away, he couldn’t find me here. That last fight was exactly what I needed to leave him. After all the fights, screaming, and complaining, I just had enough.
He thought he could silence me with expensive gifts and that golden cage he called “home”. I couldn’t believe I was trapped in that lie. Since he sold his company, he thought he is the king of the world. What an old cliché, a Latin woman and her older American man.

But then I was free… I bet he didn’t realize I left. He actually thought I was a stupid uneducated woman, I was just pretending. I learned everything I needed from him; I had my money and my businesses.

There, in that blue ocean paradise, with tall coconut trees and tropical music playing everywhere, I was invisible, I blended with the rest. I planned my escape for over a year.

I had to admit, I was kinda impressed with myself, the whole going away to visit my mother was so easy and yet simple.

Finally, peace and tranquility. The breeze, the sun, and the ocean were the perfect rewards for all those years of drama.

I had a bag full of books, and they were going to be the only people I was going to interact with.

Then, a knock on the door distracted me from keep enjoying the beautiful view. I thought it was room service.
I yelled: Come in. — The biggest mistake of my life, well, the second one. The first one was marrying him.

He entered the room like he owned the place. He walked straight to me. I was paralyzed, couldn’t move, I think I even stopped breathing.

He grabbed me by my waist, pulled me to him, and kissed me on the cheek… I was cold as ice, shaking. He looked me in the eyes, there was death in them. He gave me a smirk of a smile and said: Don’t you ever dare to escape again from my golden cage, little bird.
