As with fantasy, every season always has its fair share of romance and comedy anime. But what we saw last summer was completely crazy, and I say that with absolute certainty. I already mentioned it in my previous top romance anime list, and that is because, apart from the return of several highly anticipated anime in this industry, new romantic anime were also released, including the one I am bringing you today in this post. Dealing with the Mikado no Sisters Is a Breeze is a romantic story about high school students that, at first glance, may seem like just another one of the bunch.

But something that makes this anime special in some way is the way the story is told and how it presents and develops its characters. I'll mention right away that, at first glance, it seems to be the typical school RomCom with a Harem included, and that's true, I'm not going to lie to you. The only difference between this and many other anime of this style is that it has almost no fanservice, and it has a story that is worth knowing. Especially if you like romance and comedy intertwined with a plot full of dense situations such as social pressure and criticism, the consequences of always being the best, and the lack of parental affection in a family divided by prestige and recognition.

Pero lo que se vivió en la pasada temporada de verano fue una completa locura y lo digo con toda certeza. Ya lo mencioné en el pasado top que le hice a los animes de romance en su momento y es que, aparte del regreso de varios animes bastante esperados en esta industria, también se emitieron nuevos animes románticos, entre ellos el que les traigo hoy en este post. Dealing with the Mikado no Sisters Is a Breeze es una historia romántica de estudiantes de secundaria que, a simple vista, puede ser uno más del montón.

Pero algo que posee este anime que lo hace especial de algún modo es la manera en la que es contada esta historia y cómo presenta y desarrolla a sus personajes. De una les menciono que, a simple vista, pareciera ser el típico RomCom escolar con Harem incluido y es así, no les voy a mentir. La única diferencia que tiene este de muchos otros animes con este estilo es que no posee casi nada de fanservice, además de que tiene una historia que sí vale la pena conocer. Sobre todo si te gusta el romance y la comedia entremezclados con una trama repleta de situaciones densas como lo es la presión y crítica social, las consecuencias de ser siempre el mejor y la falta de cariño paternal en una familia dividida por el prestigio y el reconocimiento.

That's right, this story revolves around our protagonist, Yū Ayase, who is the son of a famous and very talented actress in his country. The legacy she left behind after her death haunts our young boy, especially when he starts studying at the Saika Academy for Gifted Students. As if that weren't enough, our protagonist will also have to live with the Mikadono sisters, three talented young women who are the most famous at the academy, as well as being the best in their field. Disappointed by their lack of talent, the sisters are forced to live with our protagonist in the same house while they study at the same school.

As you have just read, this anime does not have the typical teenage love story. It can be said that it is a mixture of different stories linked between three talented sisters and a nosy young man with no talent whatsoever. The interesting thing about all this is that we also see a society that glorifies talent and only recognizes people who are talented, while those who have no talent or skills are despised and treated like trash. Not unlike real life, these types of plots really appeal to me because they always show us stories that are worth knowing. Here we return to the Mikadono sisters, who also take center stage.

Así es, esta historia gira en torno a nuestro protagonista, Yū Ayase, quien es el hijo de una actriz famosa y bastante talentosa de su país. El legado que ella dejó tras su muerte persigue a nuestro pequeño joven, sobre todo cuando empieza a estudiar en la Academia Saika para Estudiantes Talentosos. Por si fuera esto poco, nuestro protagonista también tendrá que convivir desde entonces con las hermanas Mikadono, tres jóvenes talentos que son las más famosas de la academia, además de ser las mejores en su área. Decepcionadas por no tener ningún talento, las hermanas son obligadas a vivir con nuestro protagonista en la misma casa mientras estudian en la misma escuela.

Como acaban de leer, este anime no posee la típica historia de amor adolescente de siempre. Se puede decir que es una mezcla de distintas historias enlazada entre tres hermanas talentosas y un joven entrometido y sin talento alguno. Lo interesante de todo esto es que vemos también una sociedad que glorifica el talento y solo reconoce a la gente que es talentosa, mientras que los que no poseen talento o habilidades son despreciados y tratados como basura. No muy distinto a la vida real, este tipo de tramas me llama mucho la atención ya que nos muestran siempre historias que valen la pena conocer. Aquí volvemos con las hermanas Mikadono, las cuales prácticamente se llevan parte del protagonismo también.

But what strikes me most about all this is how the anime so naturally blends this dramatic story of talented young people in an elitist society with jokes and funny moments. I think this works so well thanks to the characters themselves, with the protagonist taking most of the credit for his clumsy, innocent, and rather stubborn personality. It's like watching the typical story of the clumsy boy trying to fit in at a school where almost everyone is a genius, or something like that. The funniest thing about everything our little Yū does, both at the academy and at home with the Mikadono sisters, is how they react to his every attempt to earn their respect.

In case you didn't realize just by reading the title of the anime, the main point of almost all the jokes and funny moments in this series is how "easily" the Mikadono sisters accept our protagonist. At first, they see him as a useless talentless guy, but not a day goes by when he proves to be useful to them, at least when it comes to household chores and seemingly simple things that are difficult for these talented sisters to do. The joke in all this is that the more our protagonist tries to get closer to each of them, the more they unconsciously fall in love with his personality and affectionate attitude.

Pero lo que más me llama la atención de todo esto es cómo el anime mezcla de forma tan natural esta historia dramática de jóvenes talentos en una sociedad elitista con chistes y momentos graciosos. Creo que esto logra funcionar muy bien gracias a los mismos personajes, siendo el protagonista el que más se le atribuye todo el mérito por tener una personalidad torpe, inocente y bastante terca. Es como ver la típica historia del chico torpe intentando adaptarse en una escuela donde casi todos son genios, o algo parecido. Lo más gracioso de todo lo que hace nuestro pequeño Yū tanto en la academia como en la casa junto con las hermanas Mikadono es cómo ellas reaccionan a cada intento que él hace para ganarse su respeto.

Por si no se dieron cuenta apenas leyendo el título del anime, el objetivo o punto principal de casi todos los chistes y momentos graciosos que tiene esta serie es cómo las hermanas Mikadono aceptan de manera tan “fácil” a nuestro protagonista. Al principio lo ven como un inútil sin talento, pero no pasa un día cuando demuestra ser alguien útil para ellas, al menos en lo que respecta a labores del hogar y cosas aparentemente sencillas, pero difíciles de hacer para estas hermanas talentosas. El chiste en todo esto es que, mientras más se esfuerza nuestro protagonista por acercarse a cada una de ellas, más se enamoran inconscientemente por su forma de ser y su actitud cariñosa.

The good thing about this anime is that you can quickly become familiar with some of the main characters. Above all, by learning about their stories and experiences, we can see how each of the Mikadono sisters develops throughout the series. For example, there is the case of Niko Mikadono, the middle sister, who has a talent for martial arts and is the best in the entire academy. However, when she encounters a rival stronger than herself, it is impossible for her to fulfill her duty of always winning.

Like this one, there are other cases in this anime where the sisters' talents are put to the test, and we see how the help they receive from the protagonist gives them the boost they need to keep going. It's no surprise that the story becomes somewhat romantic, largely due to how Yū's relationship with the Mikadono sisters evolves into something more intimate and special. In this part, I would like to mention how funny it is how the sisters see our protagonist as handsome and attractive every time he makes a comment or does something for them, only for him to ruin every moment with his clumsiness.

De este modo se podría decir que es como ver una típica novela romántica, con todo y su drama y comedia de por medio. Lo bueno de este anime es que te puedes familiarizar rápidamente con algunos de los personajes principales. Sobre todo al conocer sus historias y experiencias podemos ver cada desarrollo que tiene cada una de las hermanas Mikadono a lo largo de la serie. Por poner un ejemplo, está el caso de Niko Mikadono, la hermana del medio, quien posee el talento para las artes marciales y es la mejor de toda la academia. Sin embargo, al encontrarse con un rival más fuerte que ella le es imposible cumplir con su deber de siempre llevarse una victoria.

Como este, también hay otros casos que podemos ver en este anime donde se pone a prueba el talento de las hermanas, además de notar cómo la ayuda que reciben por parte del protagonista les da el impulso que necesitan para seguir adelante. No es de extrañar que la historia se vuelva un tanto romántica en gran parte debido a cómo la relación que forma Yū con las hermanas Mikadono va evolucionando a algo más íntimo y especial. En esta parte me gustaría mencionar lo gracioso que es cómo las hermanas ven a nuestro protagonista como alguien apuesto y atractivo cada vez que lanza un comentario o hace algo por ellas, todo para que luego arruine cada momento con su torpeza.

Although the joke that in the end they all fall in love with him is one of the many romantic clichés that anime has, in this case you can understand why when you see everything our protagonist experiences and faces from the beginning of the series. On the other hand, one of the disadvantages of this romantic story is that, being a Harem, we don't see much progress in any of the relationships that Yū forms with the Mikadono sisters. It also seems to end on an open note, waiting for a sequel that has not yet been confirmed.

Personally, I really dislike this about RomCom anime when I watch it, especially if it has an interesting story or characters. However, I'm already used to it after losing count of the number of anime of this style that I've seen to date. But for those of you reading this who aren't sure, this will be a significant disadvantage when deciding whether or not to watch this anime. At this point, I should be clear about whether or not to recommend it, but I'll just say that there are better romance anime than this one. Although, with Harem included, no other teenage love story is as special as this anime.

Lo bueno de todo esto es que, primero y principal, no es el típico protagonista que siempre vemos en todo anime RomCom. Si bien el chiste de que al final todas terminan enamoradas de él es uno de los tantos clichés románticos que tiene el anime, en este caso se le puede entender la razón del por qué al ver todo lo que vive y afronta nuestro protagonista desde el principio de la serie. Por otro lado, una de las desventajas que tiene esta historia romántica es que, al ser un Harem, no vemos un avance tan notable en alguna de las relaciones que forma Yū con las hermanas Mikadono. También parece cerrar de forma abierta esperando una continuación que hasta ahora no se ha confirmado aún.

Personalmente me disgusta mucho esto de un anime RomCom cuando lo veo, sobre todo si tiene una historia o personajes interesantes. Sin embargo, ya estoy acostumbrado luego de perder la cuenta de la cantidad de animes de este estilo que he visto hasta la fecha de hoy. Pero para los que me leen y no lo están de seguro esto será una desventaja bastante desfavorable al momento de elegir ver o no este anime. Ya para este punto debería de tener claro si recomendarlo o no, pero solo diré que hay mejores animes de romance que este. Aunque, con Harem incluido, ninguna otra historia de amor adolescente es tan especial como lo es este anime.

Last but not least, let's talk about the audiovisual aspect of this anime. With a studio well known for its classic masterpieces of the past, this animated adaptation has a level of quality that rivals many other RomCom anime (although it didn't quite match CloverWorks' work this summer season). The unique character designs, the clear, varied, and bright color palette, the visual effects, the fluidity, and the detailed drawing style are the most noteworthy aspects. The sound effects are also well done, but nothing compared to the soundtrack, which stands out more in specific scenes throughout the work. Anyway, as I said above, if you're interested in this anime, then you can see if you like it.

Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the romance and comedy genre.

Normalmente los animes RomCom con Harem son muy mal vistos en esta industria y con mucha razón. Por eso es una sorpresa ver un anime como este donde tenga cierta temática y clichés típicos de cualquier otro anime, pero sin las cosas que hacen que la gente deje de verla. Ya sea por ser superficial o por tener mucho fanservice, la mala reputación que posee esta pequeña fracción del género del romance es bastante notable. Que el público objetivo de este tipo de animes llegue a aparentar la mayoría de lo que realmente son ya es otra cosa aparte. Como sea, no es que tenga la mejor historia de amor juvenil del mundo ni muchísimo menos. Tampoco es que sea de mis elecciones favoritas a recomendar de esta temporada, pero si te interesa entonces puedes ir a verla.

Por último, pero no menos importante, hablemos del apartado audiovisual que tiene este anime. Con un estudio muy reconocido gracias a obras maestras clásicas del pasado, esta adaptación animada posee un nivel de calidad que logra competir con muchos otros animes RomCom (aunque no llegó a igualarse a lo que fue el trabajo de CloverWorks en esta temporada de verano). El diseño único de los personajes, la paleta de colores claros, variados y brillantes, los efectos visuales, la fluidez y el estilo de dibujo detallado son de lo más destacable. Los efectos de sonido también están bien trabajados, pero nada comparado con su banda sonora, la cual logra destacarse más en escenas puntuales de la obra. En fin, como ya dije arriba, si te interesa este anime entonces puedes ver si te gusta.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de romance y comedia.
