Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 1st April 2020
Welcome to the old homesteading newsletter, coming to you from a new location! Yes, a LOT has been happening since the last edition two weeks ago and it's not just a move to Hive.
I hope everyone is keeping well in these troubled times. It's been a few generations since we've had upheavals on a worldwide scale to this level and it's guaranteed to affect both our physical and mental health. This week most of our highlighted posts touch on these issues.
Things happening in the community.
The reason the newsletter is now coming to you from @naturalmedicine is because @sagescrub has made the tough decision to close the Homesteaders Co-op. It wasn't something he could do on his own and the help he was getting was limited to a few who probably didn't have the level of expertise in enough areas to expand the promotion of it to where it was needed.
I want to give a heartfelt thanks to @sagescrub for all he did to give others this opportunity, @kay-leclerc for trying so hard with the marketing and teaching us so much, @nateonsteemit for all his energy and enthusiasm and @bobydimitrov for always being on hand in the discord. And so we say a sad farewell to this wonderful project. For anyone who still wants to get together and talk garden, @riverflows has opened up a channel on the Natural Medicine discord.
Visit @eco-alex's page to read the latest accounts on the EcoVillages projects which have been keeping him busy. This week's @ecotrain question of the week asks what you do to stay balanced and positive whilst in lockdown.
@simplymike's Garden Journal Challenge continues on Hive, but for this month also on Steem. It looks like there are a few more days to get your entries in.
The first week of the @naturalmedicine challenge is over, but week 2 is still going and you've still got time to get and entry in for the immunity challenge.
The @innerblocks will now be running on both Hive and Steem as they continue to support the personal stories.
Welcoming Newcomers
Some highlights of the week
Between viruses and pollution, our airways get put through a lot. So @artemislives' natural decongestant and cough syrup should be just what the doctor ordered.
Quarantine has left @briarch fending for themselves a bit more, but skills previously learnt from family have meant they could make some repairs on the lawnmower and get it up and running again. They share tips and tricks on how this was done.
If quarantine is giving you some time to kill, then you might enjoy sitting down with a cuppa and reading the latest update from @jacobpeacok's Fantastica Homestead Chronicles.
With face masks in short supply, what better than to make your own? That's just what @marblely did and shared the process from start to finish.

A huge hug from @amico! 🤗
So sad about Homesteader's Co-op. Hopefully things enliven over the upcoming months so it can maybe have another run at it. ❤🙏🌸
Sadly I don't think that will happen. Sagescrub has a lot on with building his own business, homestead and being a father. He didn't get the support he needed.
He's a father now? No kidding he has no time! It's a great project that he built. Pls say Hi for me if you chatting with him.
I'm sad about the @homesteaderscoop and am HOPEFUL something new will come forward on #hive for retail. Am soooo tired of people supporting amazon et al. Urgh. Just awful. We need to walk the talk, Be The Change and not just chase the $$.
Grateful for the feature, @minismallholding - awesome job with the newsletter. 🍓
As am I. I had hoped that at some point I would get around to getting some of my crafts on there. The Amazons of the would are just so cheap and convenient, I guess. Everything in one place, which could have been the HSCO if it had gotten of the ground.
Thank you.
Cheap and convenient is half the problem, as it blinds us to what's really happening.
I'm sure one day there will be other decentralized retail options 😉
Ain't that the truth! Once all the money has gone on the cheap easy options, nothing is left locally where it's needed. Even if I support you in a different country, I know I'm also supporting the communities around you, not just feeding it back to one person.
Right. That amazon guy sure seems to be profiting from everyone else's misery whilst giving his own people NO support, let alone safe workplaces. Bring on a new decentralized sales platform!

Great newsletter @minismallholding and I am stoked you are continuing it here to support homesteaders. Really sad about HSCO but also excited for @sagescrub and his ventures. I am sure a new market place will turn up soon. X
