Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 20th May 2020

I hope this week has treated you well. For many countries restrictions are starting to recede and people are getting out and about a bit more. It's been lovely to see lots of activity in the community and we have another new arrival to meet today.

Things happening in the community.

I love the theme of this week's @ecotrain question of the week which asks us how we've made a negative aspect of our life into a positive.

image.png

The first week's entries have been rounded up for the ongoing @naturalmedicine wild edibles challenge. Final entries are due 23rd March, so still time to get yours in.

If you're a needleworker, don't forget that the @needleworkmonday 1000HP for a month delegation drive is still going. Just post your needlework posts in the community on a Monday to go in the draw.

Welcoming Newcomers

I'm always excited to see newcomers to Hive and am thrilled to welcome @localgrower who's made a positive start with a thorough introduction.

Some highlights of the week

Locked out of his home in India and in lockdown in Portugal, it's been a bumpy journey for @eco-alex, but things are moving in the right direction as he starts to make plans for the land purchased for the ecoVillages project. One yurt coming up and plans are underway for the first earthship.

image.png

@leighscotford takes us through a step by step on a build of compost bays, a basic build that even I might manage!

image.png

Cacti and succulent enthusiast @nikv has been saving and re-potting a rather ferocious looking, dehydrated Fish Hook barrel cactus. She goes through the nitty gritty of the basic needs that so many get wrong.

image.png

This vegan lok-lak recipe from @sreypov looks to die for and she's laid it out in such an easy to follow format.

Each week one of our featured authors will be selected to be a 5% beneficiary of The Lotus Garden newsletter. This week @sreypov will receive this award.

Thank you for stopping by. This week's newsletter was brought to you by @minismallholding.

This is the future. Believe it or not, we need decentralized farming

True, so much could benefit from decentralising. Thank you for reading.

Lovely curation @minismallholding - thank you for being such a backbone to several Hive communities. 😍 I'm needing to sort a composting system and will be making something similar but using bamboo. Hoping to get started on this this weekend!

Hugs and so much appreciation for your generous & inclusive spirit.

Thank you! 💚

Will you be documenting your compost bay build? It will be interesting to see it as a bamboo version.

Interesting selection, especially the one with eco villages and the yurt building😊 I find it so good that people always turn to nature, as it's supposed to be

Hey, @naturalmedicine!

Thank you so much for the encouraging welcome! I've been overwhelmed with the support I've received since coming onto the platform. I will continue with what I set out to do and share an insight into my gardening journey and experiences and am looking forward to getting to know the great community that we have gong on here!
Perhaps I will put some posts in the Natural Medicine community as some of the food that I am growing is exactly that! I will also use the @ecotrain community too!
I'd love to get involved with the LOTUS and Homesteading project you have going on here! Let me know!

Upvoted!

Thanks,

@localgrower

My apologies for my terribly tardy response! I'm glad to hear many have done much better than I to support and make you feel welcome here anyway. 💚

No worries, please can you get me in the Natural Medicine Discord? I'd like to discuss the LOTUS opportunity! Thanks

If you look at the bottom of the main post there is a link to the discord there. Also the comments from the natural medicine accounts should all have a discord link. Any problems, do let me know and I'll see what I can do.
