CineTV Contest #16 : Tokyo Godfathers - Kindness, redemption, friendship and family.

When we are benevolent, and help the needy, avoid pain in others, and try to lessen their distress we are kind. Kindness is a natural tendency to do good.

Gin, Hana and Miyuki are three homeless people who, on a quiet, cold Christmas night, must find the family of a baby they have found in the garbage.

Next to the abandoned baby is a note that says: "Take good care of her, please", and a key that opens a mailbox.

These three protagonists turn out to be very charismatic and before achieving their goal a variety of obstacles present themselves, which will make them remember moments of their lives that seemed forgotten.

These people are very different from each other, but they catch the viewer as each of them manages to represent comic and emotional moments.

Gin, a middle-aged drunkard, a hardened gambler who lost his money and affections (wife and daughter); Hana, an old transvestite in low hours who lost the love of her life; and Miyuki, a confused teenager who has run away from home after having an altercation with her father, who is a police detective, over a pet. Initially they were going to return the baby to the police, but Hana's maternal feelings prevent it and they decide to prolong their impromptu fostering in the impossible scenario of their street life while searching for the girl's parents.Meanwhile, they give the girl the name Kiyoko, which means 'pure girl'.

In the course of the film we will see the reasons that led to their miserable life, and the surprising connections between people. A kind of spider web is formed in the plot to be unraveled where social portraits are exposed, mixing comedy with drama.

Each situation they live through is an opportunity to experience the power of forgiveness, family and love. The characters discover the importance of teamwork as something indispensable. This trio maintains a dynamic that functions as a family, given the bonds they have learned to create from their shortcomings.

The length and pace of the film are adequate, never becoming boring.

These characters face their pasts, and often unintentionally help other people, which shows the inherent goodness of human beings.

The film combines a realistic style of animation with a dose of black humor and social criticism that shows a kind and not so kind side of people.

The ending shows us a promising future for these three protagonists and closes the center of the story very well.

This film was released in 2003 and was the work of the late master Satoshi Kon, who is recognized as one of the most important representatives of Japanese anime, he was also the author of the films Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, and Paprika, all animation gems. All these films, including Tokyo Goodfathers, were made at the Madhouse studio.

Somehow when I watched this anime a few years ago I thought I had seen a similar story somewhere, and I remembered that in the late 70's I saw a cycle of westerns on the Venezuelan TV channel, and among them was a film directed by John Ford in 1948 entitled "The Three Godfathers":

However, I was surprised to find this 1936 version of the same story:

Both are about three western outlaws who take care of a lonely and pregnant woman and help her deliver her baby, and before she dies, she makes them promise to take care of her baby, all of this happens during the Christmas season.

It is undeniable that Satohi Kon freely relies on this story to develop his film.

I didn't expect anything interesting when watching this movie, but the adventures of these three characters, their humanity, kindness and charisma, left me glued to my seat, and in many scenes I swear I was about to cry because despite being an anime, the movie manages to convey feelings of anger, love, tenderness, friendship and kindness. It is a film that should be, all Satoshi Kon's films deserve it, in the collection of any self-respecting cinephile. A strong greeting to all the members of the CineTv community.

This is my entry to this week's proposal:

Dear @nbarrios67, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.
https://peakd.com/me/proposals/199

Your support would be really helpful and you could make a difference.
Thank you!
