We should talk face to face more often.

We no longer communicate face to face.gif

In the modern world we live in, many things have slowly disappeared over time. One of them that I would like to see return is the importance of face-to-face communication. In the age of technology and social media, personal interaction has taken a back seat, which has negatively affected our ability to understand and empathize with others.

In the past, people used to sit down and talk face-to-face, look each other in the eye and listen carefully to what the other had to say. This allowed for deeper, more real connections and fostered mutual understanding and respect.

Laziness and also the fear of uncomfortable situations push us to hide behind a keyboard and a screen to communicate, but on the way we are losing valuable elements such as attention span, space for intimacy, ability to understand and share emotions.

I think that in the past we used to consider body language a lot, making eye contact with the other person as long as necessary, we didn't prepare much what we said, we transmitted everything in a more natural way.

However, with the advent of smartphones and social networks, communication has become more superficial and cold, leaving aside the emotions and nuances of nonverbal language.

As a result, society has become more individualistic and self-centered, with a lack of empathy and understanding for others. People have lost the ability to put themselves in other people's shoes and understand their feelings and needs. This has generated conflicts and divisions in society, which could have been avoided if we maintained closer and more authentic communication.

If we were able to recover the importance of face-to-face communication, the situation would improve significantly. People would be able to establish stronger and more meaningful relationships based on trust and mutual respect. An environment of collaboration and cooperation would be created, in which differences would be seen as an opportunity to grow and learn, rather than as a source of conflict.

In addition, face-to-face communication would allow us to express our emotions more honestly and directly, which would strengthen our self-esteem and self-confidence. We would become more aware of our own emotions and those of others, which would help us to manage conflicts and differences more effectively.

In this day and age, it is vital to balance our digital interaction with face-to-face communication. The latter sends a message even before we have uttered a single word. And when we say it, others won't just hear what we say. They will receive the information sent by our body language, our tone and our emotion.

We should have a more understanding, empathetic and caring society, so that the relationships between people would be stronger and more meaningful, allowing us to face the challenges of today's world together. We must strive to maintain authentic and close communication with others.

This is my second participation this week, and it is related to the following topic:

Bring It Back: Tell us about one thing that has slowly faded away through time that you would like to bring back. It could be a character trait of people, it could a piece of technology. However, you feel that since people stopped paying attention to it, things have only gotten worse. What would you like to bring back? And how will bringing it back make things better?.

Thanks for stopping by.

What if the person doesn't live close to you or is even out of the nation, truth be told I miss face-to-face communication, and the connection that accompanies it, it makes people then more open-minded, and you get to study the person from their facial reactions and body movement, now technology hides all of that.

For me it is essential to see people face to face. My type of work is financial and besides analyzing coldly some number I need to know the person, I probe their intentions and I look a lot at the body language, that's something I can not do with an application. With my friends I prefer to see them for a moment at home or in the street having a coffee, it's something closer.

I do believe that face to face conversation works better than virtual conversation. If one is looking to build a relationship with someone, it's best for them to have regular face to face meetings in order to facilitate intimacy.

Thank you for sharing.

I grew up in an era where face-to-face conversations were more common than what we have today. I guess that's why I prefer talking to people face-to-face rather than behind a screen because I love reading body language and know what to do depending on the body language of the person, which is next to impossible when I'm chatting digitally. I guess as technology keeps advancing, face-to-face conversations are going to keep reducing, and it will get worse than this especially now that virtual reality glasses are everywhere

You have made the right decision face to face it is very difficult for someone to deceive us because it is easier to perceive people's intentions by observing their face, their eyes and the reactions they have with their body.

I grew up in the era of "It's 10 pm do you know were you children are". Were when the street light came on you where heading home for the night.
Meaning you hung out with friends/people all day and family time was just as important as night.

That message was very popular here in Venezuela in the 70's, I was very young but I realized that there was a TV station that played it precisely at that time. Those were other times without apps or cell phones. Enjoying at home helped you to learn values that your parents showed you and taught you.

Honestly, it's high time we get to take this face to face discussion seriously.
In the olden days, families sit together and discuss about their well-being but in recent times, even during dinner, you see everyone with their phones checking for what I don't know....

It's quite sad I must say

In my house, as a rule, we don't answer or see the cell phone during meals. At that time we gather around the table and talk about how the day went, we reconnect as a family after a hard day's work.

That's a rule I'll be looking forward to make when I get my own family too... It's nice

The advent of smartphones and social networks has hijacked the face to face interaction today and it is something I also would love to bring back. You see when two people are chatting online, it is hard to truly know if their words have meaning but looking at them and their body language would help us know clearly that they mean what they have said and expressed through their actions and not that they are faking it or pretending.

You hit the nail on the head, body language is important, as is our facial gestures, when we see each other person to person it is more organic, it feels more real than through a phone app.
