Hello friends, welcome to my blog, today I want to talk to you about a movie that is inspired by real events, from the perspective of four different women who had to live together, forced by the most terrible circumstances that a people can go through, a civil war. Years ago I saw the movie Hotel Rwanda, which dealt with this subject from another point of view, based on real events. Both films show us how messages of hate and resentments grow in a population and when they are released, they destroy everything. The struggles between citizens of the same country, neighbors, co-workers, were led by hatred to commit the greatest human atrocities, just because they belonged to a different ethnic group, the Hutus murdered nearly a million Tutsis.

In 1994, with the assassination of the Hutu president of Rwanda, Juvénal Habyarimana, the indiscriminate killing of the Tutsi population by Hutu soldiers and citizens began. In this context, Hutu families who did not agree with it were forced to join the massacres and persecution of Tutsis or they would be killed. The film treats as a couple of the Hutu ethnic group; Those who refused to participate in the massacre conceived that her pregnant wife would hide in a secret basement where they kept the food, while her husband would try to deceive the Hutu military. Annick (Eliane Umuhire), would provide shelter to three women, Peyton (Ella Cannon), Akimana (Omono Okojie), and Jeanette (Charmaine Bingwa). While her husband, Francois (Tongayi Chirisa), searches for a way to get them to safety.

The film is heartbreaking from an emotional point of view, it leads us to feel the desperation, impotence and anger of these women who must spend a long time in hiding to survive the horror that occurs outside. We will also see how the bonds of these women will become closer as they get to know each other intimately and personally. I liked the film, the performance of these women is extraordinary, they make us live their personal stories, their motivations and what drives them to move forward and not give up despite the shortcomings and difficulties. The director of this film, Alanna Brown, has achieved that in a tiny space, 4 women make us feel fear, desperation and at the same time hope because these women manage to escape the horror of war.

I must confess that the film fills me with diverse emotions throughout it, knowing each of the characters and their stories impacts you. Being in the middle of a war must be terrible, but worse if you are considered an enemy. I will never understand how in the name of politics, race, sexual preference or creed, people can be murdered, it is something absurd and incomprehensible. What happened in Rwanda was one of the worst genocides in recent history, but worse still, the world will be slow to react and will try to do something to protect the innocent. So many people should never have died, but fortunately measures were taken. Thanks to the national reconciliation project, that country took the step to heal the wounds of hatred and rebuild the nation.

This movie, without a doubt one of the best I've seen in a long time, makes us think, feel and emotional when we listen to the stories of its characters, their struggle to survive, the understanding and acceptance of their differences. Differences that in the end help them to understand each other better and accept that they are human, with their virtues and defects. When you reach that level of understanding, that's when the ties that will bind you to that person forever are strengthened. A film that shows us the resilience of these 4 extraordinary women. If you get a chance to see this movie, do it, you won't regret it.

Saludos ;)
