A heart of regret

Life was good, I was the most popular kid in school. I got all the attention, things were great until Mathews happened, a transfer student-athlete from France. He had a french accent and it wasn't long before the whole school fell in love with him. I never said a word to Mathews even though he tried to talk to me on several occasions, no sir, you're not using that accent on me. I was still the best student athlete in school, having the highest number of layups and baskets this season but only I seemed to be aware of those facts.

I knew it was only a matter of time before everybody forgot my name so I had Mathews planned, to make him go from hero to zero in one day. It was nothing serious, just that the principal was going to find drugs in his bag from an anonymous serious, enough to get Mathews suspended but not expelled, I'm not an evil person.

Getting the drugs was the easy part, getting it into his bag was tough, he went everywhere with that thing. I made the call to the principal and it was time for me to rise to the top, again or so I thought. Mathews walked into the locker room.

"Hey man, Kevin, right? I've been meaning to talk to you?"

"Okay?"

"I heard you're the best baller in school, I was hoping we work on our passes when I join the team"

"Sure, if that time comes"

"Before you go, could you do me a favour?"

"Maybe, what is it?"

"I have a problem with maths and it's no news you're the best at it. I need to keep my grades up if I want to stay here, I don't think my mother's heart can take me not being accepted here"

"How?"

"I was kicked out from my former school because I beat up a kid who was bugging me so my uncle helped transfer me here"

"Search him!!!"

"What's going on? I haven't done anything wrong"

"I got an anonymous call you had drugs in your bag"

"That's not possible, I have never had drugs"

"Then how do you explain this?"

Principal Muller pulled the drug out of his bag, just where I left it. I didn't know his mother was sick, it was time to take responsibilities for my actions.

"I did it, I put the drugs in his bag"

"Don't try to cover up for him, you're a good student and he has done something like this before, I suggest you keep your mouth shut"

"But I'm not covering up for him, I put the drug there"

"I said enough!!"

All my attempts to foil my own plan failed. That was the last time I saw Mathews. I didn't think he was going to be expelled. I wish I could take it all back but I can't. Wherever Mathews is, I hope he can forgive me.

I really hope Mathews find it in his heart to forgive the narrator. I actions, when just a little can have a lasting effect on people's lives, we ought to be more careful

So much for foiling your own plan...it's could have been a lot more easier if you had just gotten to know him before planning his downfall...but I don't blame you, we humans can get really territorial at times..

Nice story , tahnks for sharing ❤️

Thank you for writing this story for The Ink Well, the narrating voice fully describes the inner self of this insecure, ill-feeling student who brings about the misfortunes of others for incomprehensible reasons. Thanks for the interactions on the other writers' stories, @nelson-george.

The consequences of jealousy played out and there was nothing he could do to prevent it.
I enjoyed your story.

He admitted to not being evil yet he put up a smooth sketchy plan that he tried unsuccessfully to take back! How malicious!!
