Many of us are either now on our own, or are in school. Tell us about the first time you left home for good to be on your own. What was the reason? And what did you learn from that experience? Share it with us.

Home or Away

Nobody can can deny food always taste better when you're home, especially your mother's cooking. An added advantage would be not having to worry about somethings like paying light bills or for me, worrying about what to wear when I go out because I hardly go out when I'm home, it's my sanctuary. And then there's the part where I get to see my family, even my annoying little sister.

I haven't technically left home for good yet, but I'm not at home either, it's a tricky situation, okay, maybe it's not that tricky but let me explain. I'm still in school, would've have finished but there's an ongoing strike in the country. Most schools are on strike so students have to sit at home till it's called off. I didn't go home immediately, a part of me was hoping the strike would be called off, but I low-key knew that wasn't happening anytime soon. I haven't been home for a very long time, just visited last week because I was off from work. In my mind, I haven't really left home, I still use the whole student excuse thing to visit them. I can always say I'm still their responsibility because I'm still in school but I know thats over when I leave.

I stay in the house I rented alot, pay my own rent, buy my own food, pay my bills but once in a while they help out when they remember they have a son somewhere, but they never bug me to come home which is sad thinking about it, I'm the funny one in the family, you would think they'd want me around alot. Longest I've stayed away from home is like a year and three months. I must have moved out already in their minds. When I came home recently, the box where I keep my clothes was put at the bottom of the stack of boxes in the room. There were a bunch of junk in what I used to call my room. My mom said I'm a visitor. If I am a visitor, why am I still helping out with the dishes???

When I finally leave home for good, I know they'll miss me alot, I can feel it. For now, I'll continue to act like a visitor without an expiration date😏.
