The Decade That Lives Within Me – The Tale of Sonny.

Many people wish they could have a time machine so they could go back and relive beautiful experiences, or perhaps live in times they wished they were present in. But the reality is that this isn't possible, no matter how much you wish for it. So, what do you do when you want to live in another era, but can't go there? Let's look at Sonny's case to learn more. From a young age, he's always been obsessed with the 1970s, especially its aesthetics and music. He loves the rock of those years, the bands that laid the groundwork for the rock we have today, and generally living in that era. But unfortunately for him, he was born in modern times and can't go back in time.

He's always lived frustrated because he loves the legendary music of that time and sees that it's no longer valued as much today. For all these reasons and more, he wishes he had a time machine. But it's not possible, and he knows it. His love for everything related to 1970s music began thanks to his parents. They indirectly instilled this love in him. He grew up listening to that music because his parents played it in the house. His parents also had records from that era, clothes, postcards, and many other things at home, because they lived in it.

If you put yourself in Sonny's shoes, you'll see that he abstained from all this passion as a form of acquired taste. But now that he's developed that taste, he no longer lives in that era, and that's a reality check not everyone is prepared to endure.

Since he can't go back to the 1970s, he decides the best thing he can do is bring her into his world, into his home. That's why he's been buying a lot of vintage-related things at auctions and online vintage stores. For example, he's bought vinyl records and a lot of posters to decorate his walls. He's also stopped wearing modern clothes and started wearing more classic ones. Many people find him a little odd, but almost everyone understands why he does it. So they don't judge him. You could say he lives to experience that era, or what's left of it.

The soul of his house is his parents' old jukebox. It's a big, heavy machine that was used to play songs in public places. But his parents had bought it many years ago, and it was full of classic songs. The same ones he listened to when he was a kid. The jukebox often broke, but Sonny always had it repaired, even if it was very expensive. He felt he couldn't live without her, as she was literally what helped him connect most with that time.

But even with all the adjustments he made in his life, he still felt it wasn't enough. What else could he do? That was something that kept him awake at night. He had done everything possible to bring the 70s back to him. There was nothing else to do, or maybe there was. He remembered that every day more people were forgetting about that music, about the aesthetic of it all. So he wondered how to rekindle interest in it. The idea came from a post a friend made on an online forum he followed. The forum was for people who loved that aesthetic and liked everything related to the 70s. That friend suggested that everyone had a forum to talk and share, but there's no place like a physical, real place. The virtual world feels a bit empty.

And that's when Sonny came up with the definitive idea: to create a café where everyone could share about this era and, above all, enjoy good music. Sonny scraped together all the money he had and built the café bar. Luckily, there was a space near his house, so he didn't have to build anything. He only had to buy the interior. He bought a lot of things in the style of the era. The employees' clothes and the chairs matched the aesthetic. To enter the establishment, you didn't need vintage clothes, but at least matching ones. The goal was to create something similar to a club.

But the cherry on top was his parents' jukebox. Sonny brought it to the café bar, and that was it. Now people could fully experience the decade. '70s music, guest singers to give short talks or sing classic songs, and an aesthetic that easily puts you back in time. When the venue opened, it was packed to the rafters, and all the forum friends came and formed a club. Sonny stopped feeling frustrated because he saw he wasn't alone in his love for it all. And now he felt that even though he couldn't go back to the '70s, he had brought it back to his world.
