Caracas Street Art: Eduardo Galeano (En/Es)

Each country and city has its own dominant style of street art, in spite of the large variety of styles and themes. In Caracas (Venezuela), the murals of political and ideologic themes are largely extended. In this post I show a mural dedicated to Eduardo Galeano (1940-2015) an important intelectual of the left in Latin America, he was from Uruguay and wrote the influential book “The open veins of Latin America”.

Cada país y ciudad tiene un tipo de arte urbano dominante, aunque exista una gran variedad de estilos y motivos. En Caracas, los murales de temas politicos e ideológicos están bastante extendidos. En la presente publicación muestro un mural dedicad Eduardo Galeano (1940-2015) un influyente intelectual de izquierda, originario de Uruguay. Fue autor del libro “Las venas abiertas de America Latina”, obra importante e influyente en su contexto.

The mural has a lot of symbolisms, as example the maize/corn which played a fundamental role in the aboriginal culture of the New World. The flags, the knitting patterns, etc

El mural tiene mucho simbolismo, como por ejemplo el maíz que fue la base del sustento y de las culturas indígenas del nuevo mundo. Las banderas, diseños de los tejidos, etc.

The photo was taken in Caracas in 2018, at that time the economical crisis of the country was very severe. As you can see the painting was not in very good condition, I do not know if this mural still exists today.
Está foto fue tomada en Caracas en el año 2018, año en que la crisis económica del país estaba en un estado bastante agudo. Desconozco si todavía existe el mural. Como pueden observar la obra estaba bastante deteriorada.

Hace tiempo que las tomé y la iluminación no era muy buena en ese momento, habia sombras con mucho contraste. Gracias por visitar la publicación y comentar en ella.
