Tulips and stickers - Illustration made in the traditional way

Esta semana empezó a toda marcha en la escuela de mi hija mayor, es como si de repente se les haya despertado una sed de hacer que los niños crearán cosas creativas para sus salones, bueno, no es como si me estuviese quejando del asunto pero cuando lo exigen de un día para otro no siempre es de mi agrado. En esta ocasión los padres junto con sus hijos debían crear un tipo de pegatina para una cartelera que tienen en su salón.

This week started in full swing at my oldest daughter's school, it's as if they suddenly had a thirst for making the kids create creative things for their classrooms, well, it's not like I'm complaining about it but when they demand it from one day to the next it's not always to my liking. This time the parents along with their children were to create some kind of sticker for a bulletin board they have in their classroom.

Es algo particular de cada padre e hijo y bueno esto me gustó mucho ya que mi hija y yo podríamos planificar algo sin influencia de otros. Cuando trabajamos de esta manera me gusta mucho porque puedo conocerla mejor y también puedo enseñarle algunas cosas, aunque termino aprendiendo más de ella que al contrario. Decidimos que queríamos hacer flores, ella hizo margaritas ya que son las que más le gustan y yo hice unos tulipanes ya que son mi flor favorita. En esta ocasión les mostraré mi dibujo que luego convertimos en pegatinas, ella no deseó compartir las de ella.

It is something particular to each parent and child and well I liked this a lot since my daughter and I could plan something without the influence of others. When we work this way I really like it because I can get to know her better and I can also teach her some things, although I end up learning more from her than the other way around. We decided that we wanted to make flowers, she made daisies since they are the ones she likes the most and I made some tulips since they are my favorite flower. This time I will show you my drawing which we then made into stickers, she did not want to share hers.

Decidimos que fuesen coloridas para que resaltaran en la cartelera, entonces decidí agregar muchos colores a mis tulipanes. En un principio quice hacer solo uno, algo muy minimalista, pero luego mi hija me instó a qué probara hacer varios en un solo racimo y seguí esa idea para ver el resultado y si bien no quedó mal, me encantaba más la idea de hacer uno en un racimo lol.

We decided to make them colorful so they would stand out on the bulletin board, so I decided to add a lot of colors to my tulips. At first I wanted to make just one, something very minimalist, but then my daughter urged me to try making several in a bunch and I went with that idea to see the result and while it wasn't bad, I loved the idea of making one in a bunch more lol.

Hacer equipo con mi hija no siempre es fácil, ella tiende a ser un poco inflexible, pero es por esto que me gustan estas actividades, para conocerla y poder guiarla de la manera más inteligente.

Teaming up with my daughter is not always easy, she tends to be a bit inflexible, but this is why I like these activities, to get to know her and be able to guide her in the smartest way.

El primer paso de esta pequeña ilustración es crear un pequeño boceto, nada demasiado riguroso, lo importante es tratar de darle forma a nuestros pequeños tulipanes y sus hojas. Seguidamente hacemos un delineado sutil, para luego borrar las líneas del boceto, esto siempre lo hago para trabajar de manera más pulcra.

The first step of this little illustration is to create a small sketch, nothing too rigorous, the important thing is to try to give shape to our little tulips and their leaves. Then we make a subtle outline, then erase the lines of the sketch, I always do this to work more neatly.

El siguiente paso es darle color y lo hice con algunos colores de madera y resalté con marcadores, lo hice muy colorido, además quería darle un aspecto brillante, esto lo hice posible dándole sombras con un bolígrafo de color negro. Para finalizar hice un delineado y repasé los contornos con marcadores intensos para darle un aspecto de pegatina.

The next step is to give it color and I did it with some wood colors and highlighted it with markers, I made it very colorful, I also wanted to give it a shiny look, this I made possible by giving it shadows with a black pen. To finish I did an outline and went over the contours with intense markers to give it a sticker look.

El resultado final es muy bonito el cual obtendremos varias impresiones para la cartelera del salón de mi hija y unas pocas más para formar su libreta. Todo este trabajo hizo que una idea se me viniera a la mente y creo que a mi hija le encantará,la cual es crear personajes o cositas divertidas para convertirlas en pegatinas las cuales ella pueda tener y también regalar. Creo sin duda que es una idea inteligente para explorar la creatividad de un niño. Espero sin duda que sigan presentándose oportunidades como esta. Tengan una gran semana 🧡

The end result is very nice which we will get several prints for my daughter's classroom bulletin board and a few more to form her notebook. All this work made an idea come to my mind and I think my daughter will love it, which is to create characters or fun things to turn them into stickers which she can have and also give as gifts. I think it is definitely a smart idea to explore a child's creativity. I certainly hope opportunities like this continue to present themselves. Have a great week 🧡
