Rules and Regulations

Rules, Regulations, Procedures and Paperwork

That is what annoys me most about modern Society.

Sure we need a few guidelines when you get a lot of people living in a small area but surely most of it should be just good old common sense.

Like how many people and how much paper work do you need to replace a light globe?

Don't get me started on why I am still replacing old fashion light globes when there is modern, energy efficient and longer lasting LED lights available. But that inefficiency is a close second to my dislike of the rules and regulation bullshit that goes on nowadays when trying to get any sort of job done on a big work site.

Just using lighting repairs as an example and sure some lights are harder to fix than others but still the paper now feels bigger than actually doing the job.

I have actually been doing lighting maintenance like this a bit lately and I actually have the paper work down pat but it all often has me thinking why?

I have argued endlessly before but have learnt, it is a waste of time arguing with multi national company clients and at the end of the day I am well paid so I just get on with it.

Site inductions, Insurance policies, Permits for (Work, Hot, Height, Roof top access), risk assessments, safe work method statements, procedure manuals, material safety data sheets, Licences for Electrical, high risk and an elevated platforms over 11 metres. Personnel protection equipment and testing records. A safety spotter and traffic controller. I am sure there are some I have forgotten but you get the idea.

So there is my annoyance and my idea to rectify the problem is simple. We should just go back to the way we used to do it, you just give someone a job and then you go let them do it. Don't bury people with paper work and procedures which at the end of the day means next to nothing.

100% agree with the wast of time etc just getting the paperwork etc sorted before you can even think about starting the actual work. I was on top of a special hazardous material storage container that was loaded onto a truck I was rolling out a tarp to cover it for the journey. I had no safety gear on and was lifted up by a forklift lol, then some random bloke appeared and told me I couldn't be up there with no safety gear. I asked him who he was he said state health and safety inspector 😱. I told him to go away, then he got stuck into me and I said how the hell do you expect me to get the job done then and how do you think anyone survived before all these stupid rules came in. Fortunately he disappeared and I never heard anything more about it.😁
