How my community combat insecurity and banditry. A masterpiece for others.

This might sound strange to the ears of a lot of people in this space, especially those who have never experienced insecurity and banditry in their city or probably those through which the government has made their environment conducive for living. This is not the same case with a lot of people and for many countries too. So many countries and nations of the world are going through insecurities, banditry, terrorism, and other unwholesome activities aimed at threatening the lives and properties of the people. When this happens the peace and harmonious living of the people are threatened thereby putting people in perpetual fear.

I happened to come from an environment where, banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, arson, and armed robbery among others thrive and thus become the other of the day. It became so serious that some people who were in elevated positions who would have come to intervene turned to making merchandise out of the whole scenario. We lost so many lives, properties, and investments to these monsters, and the government of the day could not come to our rescue. A lot of people were displaced as a result of these while so many business enterprises folded up and so many people lost their jobs and lives became so unbearable. The standard of living of a lot of people was reduced.

Consequently, the community decided to take laws into their hands and protect what belongs to them. When a meeting was called the people decided to form their local police to secure their communities. We agree to make contributions every month to pay the local policemen. We sewed a uniform for them and gave them security apparatus, they worked both day and night while we paid them every month. Their main duty was to place surveillance on the community and arrest any person suspected of committing a crime.

In the first week of assuming responsibility, they were able to arrest some criminals who came to rob a market woman in her shop. Not long after, criminal activities started to reduce hence we began to experience peace once again with the community. Those criminals were chased out of our community to the nearby ones. Currently, we can sleep with our two eyes closed, and our properties and investments are now safe. Moreover, we have relative peace thus development is rapidly taking place.

Nothing in this life is free of charge, you must be ready to pay some price and make sacrifices to achieve good things in life. If we were to wait for the government, it would have taken a whole lot of time but we decided to take the bull by the horns and now the result is paying off. Thanks to our community leaders who took the bold step to ensure that we experience peace once again. Therefore, if your community, city, or county is going through something similar to ours, you can apply this principle and it may work out for you as it did for us.
