Effort Is Respect

The word for the day is EFFORT. You might be wondering why a word like this would be the word for the day right, I’d tell you why. A lot goes on around us everyday. But it takes a lot to take notice of the most basic things around us which we don’t pay attention to.

Recently, I’ve noticed a trend of people putting little to no effort in so many things. Whether it has to do with themselves, their family, friends and even romantic relationships. I don’t think I’m the only one who feels people expect a lot from those around them with regards to some things but when the tables turn, they expect you to turn up for them like never before. I mean it’s cool if you don’t want to show up for people you care about because no one can force you. However, do not expect them to go all out for you when it’s your turn. Life doesn’t work that way at all.

Over the past few days, I’ve had the opportunity to witness situations which left me in shock. People who I thought wouldn’t do some stuff did those same stuff and more and it all revolved around effort and intentionality. I always make sure to show up for people because it’s the least I can do for them as a friend or whatever our relationship is. But some people don’t see it the same way. The whole issue was about how I wanted a group of friends and myself to do something nice for a friend of ours.

It’s something we usually do and I always spearhead it. I reach out to the others because I need to know our plans and everyone seems to act like they don’t care. This got me thinking a lot because these same people would come back and call you selfish when it’s their turn forgetting they didn’t even put in the tiniest of efforts when it was someones turn. Life is meant to be easy. Do unto others what you want others to do unto you. This way , we all get to live happily. Let’s do away with the selfishness and self centeredness. It’s really not the way to go.
